  • Hello,

I tried to access your craigslist ad but it says its no longer available. Have they been sold? Thanks.
  • You should look into Michael's Crafts, Save on Crafts, Jo Ann Fabrics, and similar.  I know save on crafts sells manzanita trees and branches.  You can paint them yourself for very little money.  You can buy a base or make a base also for very little money.  If you e-mail me I can help you (I am a sculptor/visual arts teacher).  It would take you one day to make a series, and if you wanted that, they could be lovely centerpieces (and then you could also buy/make candle holders with wire holders/hooks to hang on the trees, add rhinestone or crystal drops, whatever you wanted.)  The basic supplies are:

    CONTAINER:
a large base such as a large metal coffee can or a box such as a wine crate, reinforced with plywood on the inside so it is airtight, or a container such as a metal vase --- glass would break

PAINTER'S TAPE (to protect the outside of the vase or box from plaster drips, easily removable, keeps it pretty

SPRAY PAINT or GLUE GUN and FABRIC (to color the outside of the container), ALSO CONSIDER FAUX FLOWER PETALS, RHINESTONE BANDS, RIBBON BANDS, FLAT GLASS MARBLES, SEASHELLS, MOSS, or FAUX FLOWERS/LEAVES as alternatives to covering your base

    SUPPORT:
plaster, rubber gloves, bucket to mix it, warm water, long mixing tool such as paint stirrer, plastic drop cloth

    basically you would:

    1. insert the branche/s before the plaster is mixed, to the side of the container (one edge).

    2. mix the plaster and pour slowly before it sets up, rearranging the branches while the plaster is half-filling the container.  Do not fill it entirely, maybe 70%.  You would want to leave room on the top because it will expand slightly as it stiffens. You would cure it in a room with good venting, with a fan on it - good air circulation. Plaster dust / water should not go down the sink, as it can harden and cause you to need a plumber. Dump it in a utility sink. Use plastic sheeting and rubber gloves to keep it off your stuff.  Wear a dust mask.

    3. After 20-30 days, when the plaster is thoroughly cured, remove the painter's tape, use an x-acto knife or similar on the edges. Plaster can be painted, can or box can be glued on. Container can be painted or wrapped in fabric, silk leaves whatever.

    4. Affix with glue flowers, rhinestones whatever. Use spray adhesive to affix glitter, and again, a plastic drop cloth and air circulation in the room. Do any painting of the branch before putting it into the container/plaster.

    ---

Thin but durable wire is also available at places like home depot or ace hardware.  Ditto spray paint, plaster, boxes, trash bags, drop clothes, paint stirrers.  If you don't feel craftly maybe your family or fiance do?

    Good luck
