DJs

Hi Everyone,I see a lot of you have recommended the DJ company and a few others when people ask for referrals.  A lot of you have said that they had a great experience with them, etc., but I'm curious, what in particular would you say about the people/company they do that make them so particularly good to work with?  Also, I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a DJ that is pretty understated and doesn't really "MC" an event, like announce people's names when they come in and try to pump up the crowd-- I'm really looking for a guy who will just keep quiet and play what I've asked.  I know this isn't what most people want, but I'm trying to keep my wedding pretty low-key.  Any recommendations for this?TIA!

This is mine:djgaza.comThat's kinda his style. Good music, no cheese, minimal talking.I'd also check out A Starry Night and PopShop DJs. All 3 are in the city.

I used the DJ company and I thought they were great because they chose songs that had the dance floor packed all night, they listened to all of my requests and had everything right on point, and our MC was so personable and made sure everyone was having a great time. If you aren't interested in an MC, you can just get a DJ, and it's actually cheaper that way. Talk to Ryan who is the owner of The DJ Company. He was the DJ at our wedding and I believe he has the style that you are looking for.

DJ Bri Swatek is great and totally takes direction from you in regard to how you want him to "run" the night.  We wanted minor MCing and that is what we got.  He totally adjusts his style to you.

We used the DJ Solution. They're a husband and wife team, and totally not cheesy.  They did do some MCing for us. but they're very accommodating and will do whatever you want.  We had my cousin announce all of us into the reception, and they had no problem with that.  They were extremely helpful throughout the whole planning process, and kept the dance floor packed all night.www.thedjsolution.com

MC Fish kept everyone dancing but when we spoke early on he said he could alter to our particular tastes. If we wanted understated not a problem etc. I would recommend him highly. Very professional.

I'm with Amy.  I used The DJ Co for my wedding this past weekend and they were great.  We had a DJ and an MC, and performed just as we asked.  Generally speaking, I'd say interview a bunch of the companies that everyone mentioned above.  See who you get along with the best and feel comfortable with. But our experience with The DJ Company was great!  And affordable!

I used Colorblind Productions as it was who my sister and several friends used.  Besides having seen them in person the comfort factor played a huge role in my decision.  And this goes with all my vendors.  As stupid as it may sound, I wanted my vendors to be like people I'd actually want to hang out with.  People who laughed because something was funny and not because they were trying to sell me something.  I felt really comfortable with Rob and his wife.  They knew their music, knew the complexity of our music selections and worked it with little to know noise on the microphone.  They are all about the music and they are good at it.

Big Apple with Paul as Emcee...they were wonderful!!!We also had very specific requests - specifically, ethnic music (Greek), wanted certain songs played at certain times, etc.  They were completely open to working with us and tailoring a package to suit our budget and what we were looking for.  We did have Paul anouce us and the BP but, other than that he was pretty quiet other than telling people about food being served, etc.  I'd highly recommend them!

Wow.  Thanks for all of those great replies, this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for!  It's really helpful, because I don't know any DJs and didn't know where to start.  This whole planning process is pretty overwhelming to me, I'm a full-time student and also have a job and trying to run a household (no kids, so what can I really complain about...) so trying to plan out the wedding I've been dreaming about my whole life in 7mos or less seems kind of impossible....I think I will be using the advice from you ladies quite a bit!  I like the idea of using vendors who I'd like as individuals, too...that is pretty much what I want to do, now that you mention it!  Thanks again everyone!!!

I am going through the same thing... I am wondering if anyone has used Black Diamond Entertainment and if so how they were.  I have been emailing tons of DJs in Westchester, Rockland, and NJ.  Thanks!
