Photograhpy/Video prices

What is the average price people are paying for their photographer and video? I am so confused on who to meet wiht and how much is way too much to be spending on this...I know it depends on our budget but I was just wondering how much others are paying.

For photography you prob want to spend 2-3k but you may find photographer you like for less. As for videographer it depends on what you want. If you want a basic video to remember the day I would look for a film student or friend to videotape the day. If you want something more professional I would expect to pay between 800-1500.....again it depends on who you like as well.

Forgot to include my recommendation for videographer.  I would definitely suggest AJ Ingoglia as your videographer.  He does some awesome work.  His packages do start at 1500 but it was worth the money.  You can find him on vimeo or facebook.  For photos we hired Dreamlife Photos but I'm not sure they do work outside the outer boroughs.  Good luck!

My coworker used Thepros.com for his wedding. He was satisfied with their service. They are an online company and they have showcases every few months. I am using them for DJ and video. For the DJ and video it came to about 2K.

For photography, I wanted someone local and a little higher quality. For the photography and package, it will be about $2600.

  • I found a very basic photography package from an experienced wedding photographer (Nick Carter,) who has much more expensive packages in the 2-3k range. Getting 8 hours of photography with rights to all the edited prints on a CD for only $1200. And I've managed to find good deals for albums via groupon and livingsocial so that's how I plan to get those for us and our parents. I definitely didn't want to cheap out on photography so I found a good photographer who could do the work without the albums.

No way! Is he in New Rochelle? If so, that's my photographer!

  • Yeah, although it's actually $1250- actually checked because I should be setting up our free engagement session soon (actually just using it to get pictures of me and FI with our cats in bowties, lol.)

I'm super excited; I really liked his work and photography was so important to me. I'm getting married on a Wednesday and working within a one-year engagement and was really happy to find someone who was available and in my price range AND had such a nice portfolio.

  • Aww how cute, cats in bowties! Sounds like fun.

I was going to do the boudoir session but punked out and FI is not all that comfortable with it anyway. Nick said he would do an engagement session instead of the boudoir.

    Have fun!

  • My photography was $3,100 with however long I wantd the photographers, all pictures on CD with rights to print, hard copies of all proofs, and our album (which we pick up on Friday!  So excited!)
    We didn't do videography.

  • Between 10-20% of your total wedding budget on photography, depending on how important it is to you :)
  • I do not think that you should look for prices based on your overall total wedding cost.   I have worked at weddings with overall productions costs well exceeding $500,000.  The photographers were not getting $50k.    Their work should reflect the price.  If one photographer is asking $4k and another is asking $2k you should be able to see a $2k difference in their work.     I am a videographer looking to fill my portfolio.   I have done a lot of research recently in terms of pricing and quality of work.  Unfortunately I have seen some horrific wedding videos (I won't mention names though I want to) for which the client most certainly overpaid.  One company in particular  advertises rate of $1395-$3495...but from what I've seen..they have a lot of nerve charging money for their product.   A lot of photographers think they can slap on a video package on their website and produce a quality wedding film.  In reality they should stick to what they know...shooting photographs.
