Bear Mountain - Overlook Lodge Wedding

Hello!! Just wondering if anyone had their wedding or has been to a wedding at the Overlook Lodge at Bear Mountain!  I went there today to check it out and the views are gorgeous but the room itself for the reception is a bit sad.  I need a little push to keep the place on the list. Thanks :)

Yeah, the area is gorgeous but the rooms are too "rustic" for a wedding in my opinion. You should check out the highlands country club or the garrison...they're both right up the street and so much prettier. Good luck!

Did you check out the bear mountain lodge?  it was closed for years, but i think it reopened a few months ago.

I'm 10 mins away from BM and we had our prom at the overlook and it was tiny. If you're having more than 100 guests this wouldn't be the best place for you. We had to squish on the dance floor and a lot of us were dancing off of it. Check out BM lodge, it should be nice as they just redid it.

I agree with checking out Highlands or Garrison. We also looked at BM and it was so sad looking, very much stuck in the 70's in a bad way. I wanted to like it so bad, because the area is gorgeous, but just couldn't. I hope that they did a better job with the newly remodeled lodge, though I have doubts. We looked at the newly remodeled something there; a smaller separate event building and they just made it look exactly as the Overlook lodge, with some ugly 70's carpet and grade school cafeteria chairs and tables (I know you can rent those, but if you are adding that expense why not go to a place that already has decent chairs).

Sorry I'm not any help, but you are right to have doubts, I would look at their other building and if it looks the same just move on...

They never responded after I inquired about my wedding there-- so good luck!

I went with FI to look at the overlook lodge in the beginning stages of our planning. The outdoor patio area and the views are beautiful, but I definitely agree that the reception room is not only small but quite drab.

I would look into the actual Inn and see if the renovations are done yet. When we were there (in April or so) the person we spoke with said it would be done in June/July but as far as I can tell it's still undergoing work. We couldn't wait long enough for it to be finished before we decided so we booked elsewhere.

The whole area is beautiful and I was excited to look at it. one thing to keep in mind, is that it's a public park. So if you have the ceremony there, on the outdoor patio, there can just be random people watching from down below around the lake. It might not be a big deal for some, but I wasn't very fond of the idea.

We were married at the Overlook Lodge almost 5 yrs ago....wow that's gone by quick! Yes, 5 yrs and one child later I still lurk on the Knot. I still love to look at everyone's photos and will stop by every now and then. The first step is admitting it....

I have to say we liked the rustic look of it and didn't find the room to be dull or drab. We did get married a wk before Christmas and it was decorated beautifully, perhaps that made the difference. We loved that everything was on site and once we were there - we were there. Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the service for a wedding b/c the caterer has changed, but we do go back every yr to have brunch for our anniversary and this past Dec the food was still great. Bella Sposa is right that it is on the small side although they say it can hold something like 150. We had 75 guests and found it to be perfect so anything over 100 would be tight.

Good luck with all your planning!

I always wanted to look at this place, but never got around to it. As I later learned it was closed when we were looking. Anyway, things hapen for a reason.

If you are looking for something "more rustic" than the typical catering hall, then definitely check out Hollow Brook Golf Club in Cortlandt Manor. They are a beautiful venue with a lodge feel and Robbyn the coordinator is absolutely wonderful!
