I live about 5 mins away from Bear Mountain.  It is beautiful, however-

    1.  Their food is not so great and for what they charge you can get better and more at other venues.

    2.  They are not finished renovating.  I would call them to see what rooms are actually available.

Just do your research with Bear Mountain!

How big is your guest list? Brotherhood is nice, had great wine and character but I think can do between 50 and 70. We had a birthday party there for 40 and they just worked on their restaurant which may hold up to 70. I'm sorry for the vast difference in numbers. Unfortunately, we had to many people or we'd do it there since we're into wine.

We are having ours at the Overlook Lodge at Bear Mountain, it holds 150 tops, ours is 80ish.

The view is absolutely stunning, and the interior is low-key more than rustic. there are pics on the facebook. They have another venue which can hold about 100 called the Carosel, there are also facebook pics. That is a very rustic look.

The food we sampled was very very good. I have been their for their Sunday brunch as well, and enjoyed everything, and I am told the same staff prepares for the wedding. Be advised it isnt "Fancy" looking, just tasty. As for the value for cost, we are only paying 69 per person for a Sunday afternoon, and I am not sure how much a better value you can get than that.

If you want the main lodge, I would steer clear of BM if you want to get married any time in the next 2 years. They have promised openings of Fall 09, Spring 2010, and Fall 2010, and not delivered on any. They also dont even appear to be close to completing renovations.

As for Brotherhood, it was something else we looked into, as it has always been one of my favorite wineries. The food there looks much more elegant, but I found to be less substantial. (I am marrying into an Italian family, so generous portions are important). We decided against the winery because they had already missed two promised openings for their resturant as well, but now apparently it is up and running.

I'm having mine at Bear Mountain!! I could not be happier about it and my guest list is also about 100.

They have MULTIPLE venues there. The Overlook Lodge, another lodge, the Merry-go-round pavillion, and the Inn (which isn't done yet.) So I'd suggest a tour so you can see everything and which you like best. The grounds are huge - so it's a lot to take in and see which area you want for your day.

We heard from several people (family and friends) in the area that their food is OUTSTANDING. The chef is an award winning graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.

Their prices are also really affordable, IMHO. I also wanted a really unique, rustic location. I searched high and low all over the Hudson Valley area for weeks and weeks to find my perfect venue and price them out. My wedding is coming in 1/2 the price of my 2nd choice option.

They do a lot for you, too. When they crunch the final # for you it includes the fee, food, beverages, tip, tax, chair/table rental, linens, champagne toast, and wedding cake.

I found no better place that came close for the bang for the buck - esp. w/ a 100 person guest list.

we are actually going with brotherhood winery...it costs less then bear mountain inn and is a lot nicer.  we looked at the overlook lodge at bear mountain and wasnt impressed at all the merry go round room was better but it looked a little cramped for the amount of people and there was no nice outdoor area to do the ceremony there...brotherhood winery can accomodate our guest list of 100 and looked a lot nicer...they are rennovating their grand hall right now so it should be done for us by july 2012 and if not there is plenty of other space for us. thanks

I am considering Bear Mountain Inn for a summer 2012 wedding.  I know the 2nd floor of the Inn is still not done, which is the space I would need, but I am optimistic it will be done.  Does anyone have any insight into the 2nd floor of The Bear Mountain Inn?  Am I naive to think it will be done?

Does anyone have any info on the per person at bear mountain for a saturday night?
I talked to the woman yesterday and she said they are estimated to open the second floor in the winter. I guess all we can do is hope..
  • I was recently at Brotherhood Winery for a wedding. I was the Maid of Honor. I must say, though the scenery and winery itself was beautiful, the service was by far one of the worst I've ever experience. Donny was rude and completely inappropriate, so I dont know what one of these reviewers are talking about. Originally the bride was given the option to change her outfits during the reception in the tasting room. He never mentioned to us that there would be a video camera in there. It was only after she had changed into her second outfit with the help of 3 bridesmaid that he made a comment to OUR FRIEND who was assisting in coordinating some of the details in the wedding. Donny said that he JUST remembered that there were surveillance cameras in the wine tasting room and that Hernando (security guy) was upstairs watching.  Donny laughed and then jokingly said to that he was going to watch it later.  Who would say something like that?? About the bride on her wedding day no less??? This is also a complete violation of privacy!!!   Needless to say I will be telling ALL my female friends to make sure they never book this place for their wedding and I'll be sure to get the word out about this particular incident as well.
  • OMG I was planning to call this place. Yikes, is this Donny character the only one running the wedding there?
  • What's the pricing on Brotherhood winery?
