Catholic Wedding

Is anyone else on here planning a Catholic wedding?  If so, have you started the marriage preparation program?  Any tips?

I have really been procrastinating on this, but planning to call today or tomorrow to start getting everything set up.  We set up the ceremony at the parish my parents belong to this past January, but haven't done anything to start the marriage prep.  My FI and I are getting married in the Philadelphia area, but live in the DC area so we will be doing our prep at my local parish in NoVA.

Re: Catholic Wedding

  • I am having a Catholic wedding. The only requirements for us were to complete a survey "test" (bubble sheet kind of thing) then meet with the priest afterward to discuss, and to attend a 5 hour pre-cana conference type thing. It was run by a married couple and a deacon and wasn't so bad. We wanted to get those things out of the way early, so now the only other things we have to do for the ceremony are to pick the readings and music.
The best part about the requirements were that they helped FI and I talk about things that we may not have thought of.

  • We just meet with the priest from my church this week. Our meeting was a chance for him to get to know us and us him. He gave us some stuff we needed to fill out and witness forms for our parents to sign, stating that we have never been married before. Once that is all turned in we will move on to the next step. From what I understand there are a few meetings with one of the deacons and his wife and other engaged couples, a retreat type thing, plus the FOCUS.
