Negotiations

Is it appropriate to negotiate on email? or do you need to call or speak in perrson? At what point of the process do you start negotiating? Please help the clueless! Thanks. :)

I would think you would be better off in person.  Have a list of what you want and work from there.  See what they will be willing to give and don't let them know how badly you want it.  Always ask if there is a difference if you pay in cash, too.

I agree. I think you'll do better in person. I would begin negotiating early in the process. After you've met with the vendor let him/her know how much you love their whatever, but would they be willing to do x? I think you need to be prepared ahead of time with what you are going to ask for, and don't throw out any prices that are crazy or anything.

I made an appointment to meet in person with my event coordinator. We flat out told him we wanted to be in this price range including taxes and service charges. He 100% worked with us and didn't change a single thing they offer from the basic package to our package. It was awesome. But I would not suggest negotiating via e-mail.

definitely not email, and i think in person would be much easier than the phone. make sure when you're negotiating you  try different options- if they wont lower price per head, try additions to the menu, extra time to cocktail hour, etc. the more options you have, the more likely you are to get something. also research the price of competitors- when we negotiated at glen island, we brought up the price quoted for similiar things at surf club and VIP which helped a lot

Ditto to everything all pp's said. Just remember - you have more luck with negotaitions before any money changes hands and before anything is signed! GL!
