Ceremony Music questions...

Ok believe it or not, my ceremony music is not nailed down yet!  I am deciding between asking my cousin to sing and getting an organist or booking the capriccio ensemble who has been calling me constantly...what advice do people have on this?  Singing/organ or trio/ensemble?

We ended up going with an organist, but I think the ensemble could be lovely too. Do you have any songs in mind? We used Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring for the bridesmaids, I walked down to Canon in D, and our recessional was to Trumpet Voluntary. They all sounded great on the piano/organ.

    Hi
Are you sure that Capriccio Ensemble has called you many x like that?
When we met Capriccio (years ago) we communicated strictly via E-mail for information and a contract.   In fact they weren't as available via phone.
I would not want to think that perhaps some other vendor is now calling themselves Capriccio or that perhaps some other vendor is doing this, however that does not sound the style of that group to call anyone repeatedly.  Are you sure it wasn't perhaps a DJ company from White Plains calling you repeatedly? We were contacted by one in particular too many x but not by CE..not by phone.

We didn't. Well the organist sang the Holy Holy Holy and whatever other parts of the mass needed to be sung, but in the end we didn't hire anyone else. We thought about it, but we were too burned out from planning by that point to think about anything else I think!

Does your church have any restrictions on this? Some don't allow outside musicians.

I agree with pp, I booked the Cappriccio Ensemble and did most of my corresponence by e-mail and only spoke with the director by phone only after we had set a date and time to do so over e-mail. I have come across many vendors that are pushy and major sales people but the Cappriccio Ensemble does not fall into that category by far.  To hear they are calling you constantly doesn't make sense, are you sure it is the Cappriccio Ensemble? It just doesn't sound right to me.

That aside, an organist and singer (depending on the voice) is a much stronger musical sound, while a string trio in my opinion is much softer.  I personally booked a string trio because I wanted that soft, romantic sound, but it depends on what appeals to you.
