Help Needed on Venue!

So a friend of mine is engaged and looking to keep her budget to around $75pp. She is not looking for a Saturday night, but I can't figure out the $ signs on the Knot's list of venues. How much is $ vs $$. If anyone has any venue's they could recommend that would fit into her budget I would greatly appreciate it! TIA!

Is it $75 before or after taxes and gratuity?
  • edited December 2011
What area exactly is she looking in? Is it more on the Westchester side or Rockland side or does it not matter?

When we first started looking at venues we went to the Colonial Inn and it was definitely in that price range. It's a nice place and the manager we spoke with was very nice and helpful.

This place is in NJ, but just a few minutes over the NY border.

She is not particular as to Westchester/Rockland. I think guests would prefer to stay in Westchester though. And she just gave me the number $75, which I know isn't a lot. I'm a planner (besides my own wedding) and it's hard getting direct answers always.

Oh ok, I'm not as familiar with the Westchester side but there are plenty of ladies here that are. Just hang tight, and I'm sure you'll get a few good recommendations soon.

I would recommend the cotrlandt colonial, its a really nice place and def. within that budget! Close to weshchester! The only thing is that they do the cocktail hour under a heated tent... so depending on the date of her wedding it might be chilly, I am getting married in November of 2012 so thats why I did not choose it. However the guy Evan who is an owner is super nice and really tries to costumize packages. Also, not near westchester but the poughkeepsie grand, in poughkeepsie has very affordable rates, they even have an economic stimulus package that is $40 pp. I have found that the grand has the best package at the best price in this area. (and its a super nice hotel) anyway hope that helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It isn't your typical venue but have her check out www.latriestina.net

Their food is amazingly good! And it definitely fits her budget.

as pp said, cortlandt colonial is nice.  up the road where we got married is the colonial terrace.  Definitely within your price.  worth a call.  leon took really good care of us.

This is my standard "around $100 range" answer. Gives you a good base of places that might work for "around $75" on a Friday or Sunday.

In Dutchess: The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel* (*econinc stimulus package still available for 2011), Also look at Christos, The Links in Lagrangeville, Villa Borghese, Arbor Ridge, Fishkill Holiday Inn, Dutchess Manor. Rolling Greens at Dutchess Golf (on Friday or Sunday)

In Putnam: Putnam National Golf Club! (That's where we had our reception) Villa Barone (on Fridays and Sundays they may fit your budget). Also look into Chalet on the Hudson in Cold Spring.

In Danbury: Danbury Plaza Hotel, Anthony's Lake Club, And check to see if Ethan Allen hotel is having any specials.

In Northern Westchester: Ceola Manor, Hollowbrook Golf club, Colonial Terrace, Mount Kisco Holiday Inn. (I didn't really look into White Plains or Tarruytown or points south. But she can try the Double Tree hotel to see if they have any specials. I did ask for a price quote and the minimum made it higher than we wanted to pay.

Across the river - Look into Patriot Hills and Anthony's Pier Nine. Both will probably be able to work something out.

These are all traditional ballroom settings, there are also a host of restaurants with banquet rooms that would fit as well. Not sure what she is looking for, but hope this helps.

ALSO - how many people is she planning on? The places listed above all have great ballrooms and good rates. But also have minimums that she may or may not be able to meet.

Also, I’m not sure where they are looking, but Jean Jacques caterers (the caterer we are using at Putnam National Golf Club) at a bunch of their locations has a Saturday minimum of only 50 people. And Putnam has a gorgeous room for smaller weddings.

OK. This is not official answer, but I just clicked on a bunch of venues just to test, and if I were to go with my gut (based on all the places we looked at), I'd say that the $$ means after tax and tip, a wedding here could be had for around $100 pp. $$$ means after tax and tip, planning on paying around $125pp. I didn't see any that were one $, but I guess that probably means "around $75 after tax and tip". I also assume that the knot;s price legend is based on Saturday night prices.

Again, this isn't an official knot answer. I searched and only came up with dress $ guidelines. But when we were engaged, looked at 40 venues and got info from additional 20 or so others. So I knew what would and wouldn't fir the budget.

Using that as a guide, your friend probably can select any $ or $$ for her wedding. Especially since she doesn't want a Saturday, the $$ would work for her.

In lower Westchester it's going to be reallllyyy hard to find a place for 75 pp unless you do a Sunday or an afternoon wedding.  Or maybe at least "off season" like the winter months.
Best bet would be upper Westchester or Rockland county.

Rolling Greens in Poughkeepsie is $65 pp. And I don't feel bad about putting that here bc the price is right on the website!

I would never have guessed it since its "$$$" per the wise and wonderful Knot Gods. A girl I work with just got engaged and thats where she booked. After my
fiasco with Palacios I emailed them because I remembered that she said they were affordable....and I'm glad I did. They've been wonderful.

Depending on the amount of people, take a look at The Travellers Rest in Millwood/Ossining.

I am getting married there in May and he offers a good package. If you talk with Dave, he may be willing to customize for you to get it even lower. I fell in love with the garden and the charm of it. Not your typical wedding venue though. Not glitzy, more cozy and sweet.

Le Chambord in Hopewell Junction also had a good rate if I remember correctly, and I liked it a lot. Again, more charming than fancy. But beautiful!

It's probably $$$ because after the 130 people at the Saturday night price it come to $109pp. But that's if you are having 130 people. Since you have to pay the minimum number regardless of the people you have, if you are planning on an around 100 or even 120 person wedding, the cost would  end up costing about  $118pp for 120 and about $141 pp with 100. So, that would explain the $$$. You wouldn't be able to have a 100 person wedding for 10K at this place.  (I calculated our wedding and it would have ended up costing us about $143 after the add-ons  to have what we had at Putnam National. And we got a great rate and he lowered our minimum to only 100)

So Rolling Greens has a good per-person rate, but it all is going to depend on how many people she is planning on.

The Meadowbrook in New Windsor is very pretty, and the food was delicious at our tasting.  The pictures don't really do it justice on their website;  we thought it was really nice, much better than most other places we visited in the same price range.

Chalet runs about $65pp on a Sat night & that isn't a buffet either.  If you ask they will also do a tasting...the food is out of this world!
