Budget Beauty

I would just like to get an idea of how much make up and hair should cost. I haven't done any research on hair yet, but the makeup artists that I have contacted charge around $75 to $100 for the trial and the $100 to $150 for the big day. This is in the New York Area. Is this normal, or high? It seems high to me. I also found someone who does a free trial, but will only discuss pricing after the free trial so I kind of feel like it's a trick. Any thoughts? I am definitely on a budget!

I think I paid $125 for makeup and it included a free trial and the makeup she used except for lipstick and powder which i purchased with her discount so i could keep that for touch ups throughout the day.  My BMs paid 75 I think.

My hair was around the same and the BMs were 65-75 i think depending on what they wanted.

    I finally booked a place!

I am paying $70 for make-up and $85 for hair. But that's at a salon. If I had a trial the price would have been the same. If you have somebody come to you, the price will be more.

Thank you for this post- it reminded me I had to call the salon to confirm pricing!

    In Rockland:

Hair: was supposed to be $65 for bridesmaids and "a little more" for me, but b/c they are opening early on a Saturday, prices will be slightly higher. I just left a message at salon to figure it out.  I had two hair trials so far (finally got it right!) at $65 each.  When I looked into having someone come to my house the day of, hair prices for me were $150 (min) and $100 per bridesmaid.  I also had to guarantee 5 heads for her to travel.

Makeup: (airbrush)  $55 for my trial, $110 day of; $80 bridesmaids (tradition, airbrush $15 more)

I don't agree....I think it depends on who is doing your hair and makeup...some do not charge for travel...some only charge for travel if outside a certain radius.

Obviously it will depend on who.

I was just pointing out that I'm traveling to a salon and the makeup is costing me  $70.

If anyone from that salon can to you , or if any of the independent makeup artists came to you, the costs that I was quoted were more than the $70.

As least that what I got from all my calls. But there might be someone out there who is less. You never know, call around and ask! GL!

    TerriandJoe,
Sounds like you're getting a good deal!  Where are you getting your hair and makeup done?  Is the $85 for an updo?
