Where to get the gown?? Lower Westchester County

Hi Ladies,

I was wondering if you could share some of your bridal gown shopping experiences in the lower westchester county area and if you had specific recommendations? My very first appointment is this weekend with Amelias in Mt Vernon, NY.  Thanks!

Kristen

Re: Where to get the gown?? Lower Westchester County

  • Hi,

I got my wedding gown at Fontana's.  The store has beautiful dresses and they are so nice when you first go in...but so far, my experience with them since purchasing my dress has been mediocre.  They told me it would be in by January 2012 (I ordered it in April 2011), it didnt come in until March...

I got my bridesmaid dresses from Amelia's...they are so nice there and very helpful.  It's a small shop but I really liked our experience with them.  Our dresses come in this month, so I will follow up then.

I tried Botticelli Bridal in Bronxville, but I really was not impressed with their attitudes and/or customer service.  I went there with an appointment to try bridal gowns on.  Because, I did not have a “date” at the time, they did not take me seriously and literally allowed me to try dresses on in a closet sized dressing room.  I do have to say that the owner demanded the sales lady to take me out of that room but the sales lady said “She does not even have a date yet, she is just looking”.  Well, I would have you know that I purchased my dress that same day, at Fontana.

    Hi Rachael,

Congrats on having gotten your gown! Which line did you go with--there are so many out there my head is spinning! I heard mixed things about Fontana's--I know they have a beautiful selection but I heard different things about customer service! I hope they treat you well and everything comes out perfect! Amelia's looks small (i havent been inside yet), but it seemed like a nice place to start and I got a recommendation for it from an acquaintance.  I was curious about Botticelli--there is nothing worse than rude sales people! It really takes away from the whole experience you are supposed to have as a bride to be, and it makes an already anxious gal even more anxious! Thank you for your input and keep me posted!! :)
  • Thanks, I went with Paloma Blanca.  And, I actually go for my second fitting this weekend.  I first went to Botticelli because I thought I wanted a Pronovias Gown.  So, I got there, and it turned out that they only had one Pronovias gown, which I didnt like.  Do not be completely deterred from Fontana, you just have to stay on top of them throughout the order process.

When are you getting married/location? I also have a good rec. for a Florist.

Im getting married end of April 2013 at the Marina Del Rey in Throggs neck.  I think I will try Fontana's as well soon.  You have to make an appointment with all places, right? I made the appointment already for Amelia's.  Did you ever try David's Bridal? I was peeking at their website but just wasn't excited by anything.  When and where are you getting married? Please let me know who you recommend for a florist as we haven't picked anyone yet.  We've got the venue, dj/photog/videog, and church so far.  Just got engaged end of March.
  • Hi! I got my dress at Be Unique Boutique in Mt. Kisco! They don't have a huge selection, but what they do have you will not find anywhere else. The owner, Erika, gives a wonderful experience and my day could not have gone any smoother. It's not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be, considering it's a small boutique in an expensive part of Westchester. I totally recommend!!!

  • I am getting married 7/14/12 in Tarrytown.
You usually do have to make appointments first.  I did not look at David's Bridal, I did go there for my flower girl dress though.  The wedding gowns just seem poorly made, (no offense to anyone out there using DB).

For florists, I searched north and south - - but finally used Sutton Florist in New Rochelle.  They gave me so much more for so much less than alot of other places.  I did know someone who has a corporate account with them, so maybe that was why - - however, when places were only showing me hyrangea in my budget - - they showed me roses, lilies, calla's...and are making it so much more beautiful than all the others.

Thanks July! I did not hear of them since I'm further down in Westchester. David's can go either way--some of the fabrics in person do not look as nice as they do online. But some of them aren't bad!  I am leaning towards something else though b/c I think you can get something in a similar price range these days that is a bit nicer.  I'm sure some of the designers are aware people have tighter budgets.  I guess I'll start to find out...first appointment Saturday!

Hi! I was in Amelias once for my sisters wedding. Don't really remember much about the place except it was small. BUT you never know with these little stores...

I ended up getting my dress at DB. I got engaged in sept. '11 and 2 weeks later I was looking! LOL! I wasn't going to buy at that time but I fell in love with a dress.

Just last week, I was having dress regret! I was skimming through a bridal magazine and saw a beautiful dress that was more my style than the one I bought. I started getting crazy ideas to alter my current dress because I refused to spend more money on another dress. Now that I have calmed down, I love my dress and decided to leave it alone. LOL!

    Good luck and congrats! Happy Shopping <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

  • Rachael, I used Sutton Florist for centerpieces for my SIL's bridal shower last summer.  They did a beautiful job on short notice and were very inexpensive.  Unfortunately, I'm unable to work with them for my wedding but I would highly recommend them to anyone!
  • That's great to know, they are really amazing!  Congrats and Good luck to you too samantha!

NY Chica you never know either way! Sometimes you find something in a small store and sometimes you go into a big store and nothing! I can totally see myself buying a dress and then maybe having regret later LoL, there are just too many options out there!!! But I'm sure your dress is lovely and usually going with your first instinct is best!  I'm not sure I will find anything in Amelia's per say, but I got a recommendation and I figure a small place is a good place to get my feet wet b/c they will pay attention to me and give me help getting started (hopefully! lol).  Right now I am totally confused on what I want and what will look good on me so first visit will just point me in the right direction.  I'd be shocked to find something right away, but you never know!

Has anyone gone to the bridal shop in the Bronx called "Gowns by Louise"? I've heard good things about them too so I may try them as well!

How about Follia's in White Plains? I am wanting to try there just b/c they are the only place listed that sell David Tutera gowns! LoL I am obsessed with him and his gowns are gorgeous (and allegedly affordable lol)! Has anyone seen his gallery on the mon cheri website?
  • I went to Fontana to look at dresses & worked with Marie. She was so nice & helpful, however I have heard mixed reviews about Fontana's customer service & alterations dept. so I went elsewhere.

Also went to Boticelli & was not impressed with their selection at ALL! They hardly had any dresses in there. Wasn't crazy about the customer service there either.

  • I used Fontana's too... (and got Paloma Blanca). Dress is supposed to be in by August - (ordered in April). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly. I keep hearing all these nightmares about stuff not coming in on time.

As a second question - I also got my BM dresses at Fontana. We ordered them the sametime as my dress - I didn't think they would take all that long. Whats normal time for BM dresses to come in?
  • I ordered mine offline from jcrew.com it fit almost perfect and i've brought it to get altered. Super easy
