Congrats on your check!  I am currently stressing over flowers.  Any advice to share regarding how you were able to get what you wanted? I brought in plenty of pics to my florist, but wasn't happy with the mock-up.

i wasn't happy with mine either. i brought in pictures of things i liked, swatches of the girls dresses, picture of my dress, pictures of the linens. i think the issue was that before they weren't getting the feel that i was going for with the flowers. with more visuals it was easier to really get the point across.

what i also did, which i found helped a lot was actually to bring in pictures of not just styles that i liked, but actual flowers. then he was able to give me suggestions for ways to incorporate those flowers into the pieces, or if they weren't in season to give suggestions on other flowers that were similar and available (and in some cases, cheaper!). by bringing in examples of just the flowers it also helped him to get a better idea of the style of flowers that i liked and was looking for. i wasn't paying attention to if those flowers were available or not, just if i liked them or not.
we also went through books of roses so that he could get a better sense of the types of colors that i'm drawn to and styles. this was actually a BIG help!

good luck with your florist, i hope that you're happy the next time you meet with them!

Thanks so much for your suggestions, psichick!  I am def going to bring a book and flowers to my florist next month (I even picked out paint chips from Home Depot just in case I can't get the point across).   My main problem has been that I want true purples and lavenders- not pinks and blues.  I don't have a particular allegiance to any type of flower; I care more about the colors. My mock up had blue hydrangeas and pink roses- they're beautiful flowers, just not the color for which I was hoping.

hum.....i saw some bautiful purple roses in the books i went through, and there are some awesome purple orchids (kinda pricey, but omg they look awesome!). there's also one called eustona (sp?) that's really pretty. purple though, at least true purple, are usually in expensive flowers. so it might get kinda pricey with those. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
