BEER!

OK - I wish there was a way to poll all of your fiancés about this question. But anyway - My FI doesn't drink beer, neither does my dad, or his dad and brother.

So I asked my brothers and brother-in-law what we should have at the reception. We are allowed 2 domestic and 2 imported.

For domestic they said definitely Bud Light. Because a Bud drinker would drink Bud Light and also possibly a Coors Light drinker would drink Bud Light as well.

And for imported, since it's a June wedding, definitely go with Corona.

But as for the second choice, they really couldn't decide on what to pick. They mentioned Rolling Rock and Amstel Light. But I wanted to see if those sounded good, or what would you suggest.

Thanks!

domestic?
Bud Light and Rolling Rock?

imported?
Corona and Amstel Light?

We like a lot of beers so here is some input:

    For domestics:
Bud Light - icky, but a lot of people drink it happily, so definitely go with it
    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

    For imports:
Corona - not my favorite, but again, pretty popular
    Stella Artois - a lager
    Heineken - a pale lager
Guinness - not my thing, but some people love it

I think Bud Light or Coors Light is a pretty basic beer that the masses will like. I don't know about Rolling Rock though--I can't remember the last time I was in a bar and noticed someone drinking a Rolling Rock! haha

My second suggestion for domestic would be:
Blue Moon (they have regular & a summer one as well)--It's heavier than the lights, but still a popular beer. Plus, this is actually a pretty popular girl beer too!
Sam Adams (again, regular & Summer Ale are available)--Again, it's a different type of beer than a light beer, so it's good to have some variety

I think Corona's are a great imported choice--I always pick up Corona's for parties even though I'm a Miller Lite girl.  For the second choice, Amstel Light is ok, but I think Heneiken may be more popular.

Again, this is just based off our group of friends, knowing what they like. Hope it helps!!

I second Stella and Blue Moon!

i'm just trying to figure out what a "girl beer" is. i'm guessing it's a foofoo type of beer.

i would probably just pick one standard and one microbrew for each. i also would check with your venue and see what your options are. they might limit what you can get.

i wold always go with a local microbrew over any of the junk that the large brewery's make, but not everyone agrees. so for domestic, a bud or miller lite plus a microbrew would be great. crap beer for those that drink that, and a decent brew for everyone else lol

as for the imported, just go with the standards. corona, heinekin, amsetel, always safe choices. you can also look into bass, smithwicks, or something similar.

Thanks! We have a meeting on Tuesday to go over everything - this is just one of those things that I forgot. I figured if I have the selections that i want listed in some sort of order, so that when we go and find out what we can get, it will be easy to make our selections then and there.

Do people drink Saranac in the summer?
  • edited December 2011
depends on the variety. saranac makes like 20 different types of beers. something like a  ipa or a lager, yes. black and tan or a stout? probably not.

    I am a beer drinker!

I hate Bud Light!  It tastes like water...I would drink Coors anyday and honestly, know alot of people that would not drink the Bud Light.  I also like Mich Ultra.  I am not a fan of Sierra Nevada but alot of people like it.  I am also not a Sam Adams fan but that beer is very popular and would be a good choice.

    Import...
I don't like Corona but it is popular.
Stella is a great choice as would be Heinekin and Amstel Light.  I would stay away from any stouts as they are very specialized tastes.

Blasphemy! JK, but I love me a Sam Adams. Especially Cherry Wheat if it's on tap. I'm with you on the Bud Light and Corona though.

Fat Tire is another yummy beer, but I don't see it often around here so you'd probably be better off with the other beers we've all mentioned, they're more popular.

Saranac has some yummy beers for summer too.

Another suggestion - there is a microbrewery in Pleasantville - Captain Lawrence. They have some yummy beers and it would be cool to plug a local place as your second domestic beer.

capt lawrence only does kegs FYI. they have some beers that come in 1 liter bottles, but that's it. if you're ok with keg then it's a good choice. i recommend sun block, great summer beer.

Bud Light or Coors Light and Sam Adams (so you have a light and a more substantial beer)
Corona and Heineken seem like good options.  If you're Irish you might want to do Guiness too

It's actually brewed in Utica, NY (upstate about an hour east of Syracuse). I lived there for seven years and always thought the brewery was cool. And always  get my brothers the 12 pack collection at Christmas time. It's sold around here year round, but I see it more at Christmas. So wasn't sure if they had a brew that would work for June.

We always get Yuengling for our parties. I've found it to be the most universally liked by all.
