10K wedding? Please help!!

So realistically we would love just a fun, pretty party for our wedding day. That's all we want. Easier said than done, this i know.

We saw the 10k weddings on the budget page and read through the one in NYC on a Saturday afternoon in Central park, with the reception at a restaraunt & thought that was a great idea with  the natural pretty views, decreasing the amnt needed in the budget for decor.

We have seen $100/pp  at the cheapest but we certainly need it smaller than that f or the 10 K budget.  I'm on a starving teacher salary (if you even call it that) and although I would love to save money with a small wedding, I have a large Italian family and am already cutting a lot of people out with us having 100 guests.

After talking we realized we would prefer an evening wedding (although i know thats where prices can go up vs. an afternoon one).  We are planning for a wedding on Sunday May 29,2011 which is Memorial Day weekend (i know it may also be difficult to find for that price on that weekend but it's unfortunately the only option for us).

After creating our budget calculator through the Knot for a 10K wedding with 100 people, it says that:

-our venue would need to be at a budget of $800
-Food & service at $3,000- averaging out to $30/pp  (this is a hard one for us, both being big foodies, it's hard to imagine something at that price tasting great! Our big criteria is people loving the food no matter where we are, and dancing all night.)
-Beverages and Bartenders at $800

-Cake $800, ceremony location $100

These numbers don't need to be exact but if you have any ideas for us, that would be greatly appreciative!  We live in upstate NY, near Syracuse so we areunfamiliar with any areas that could be similiar to that listed in NYC for us to come up with ideas of our own.

I'm really starting to get nervous & almost frustrated that we're not going to be able to find a reasonable venue for that day and go into DEBT with a place we like, or have to end up habing the wedding in my mom's backyard or something (although not at all ugly, it's not something we'd prefer)
  Thanks so much!!

Are you specifically looking for NYC? If you are, I don't know how much help we will be because all of our weddings are right before you hit NYC. Let us know!

I'm from NJ/NYC, living on Long Island, and decided to have my wedding in Brewster because my grandparents owned a home in a private lakeside community, and we've had family there for 50 years. I never considered this location, but my aunt told me that the pavilion (a beautiful old Victorian) is big enough to hold 250 people. I'm planning on a big wedding, since we both have enormous families and would prefer to invite everyone.

Now that we only have to pay a very modest fee for the site, we can cater the whole affair, decorate ourselves, and just worry about the photographer, DJ, etc. The "little things" can easily add up to thousands, and on our limited budget, it's much easier not to have a more casual "buffet style" affair on a Saturday night in June. While I haven't figured out all the costs, it should come in under $10,000 for over 200 people.

Unless you have your heart set on a specific location, this kind of thing is an option if you're on a tight budget. Just a thought.

no we're not looking in NYC speficially we just read it for ideas.

I asctually went to high school in Rockland County and grew up in Warwick (we would prefer someting lower orange co. or south just for the distance that people are coming from all over) so i'm familiar with that area but can't think of anything off the top of my head that would be in that location & under 10 grand.

Riverjib: In the home a family home or an option for a wedding rental?

If not, do you know any other options similiar to that to have a wedding?

so you want a night wedding on memorial day weekend in the city to 10k? yea.......i don't see that happening lol

you're best best is going to be to rent out a park or similar space. do it at an off time so that you don't need to serve a full meal and can do lots of apps to cut costs, or a buffet but that's going to cost more. start talking to caterer's about what your options are in terms of cost. find the $99 sale at DB and get a dress. basically find any way that you can to save some cash.......

It sounds like you kind of want a traditional wedding atmosphere for 100 ppl with only 10k. You might have to re-think a lot of things you want for the wedding. I would for sure be looking for a restaurant and not a reception venue. And maybe make it a cocktail reception at that. If you cut out all of the other nonsense and focus the money going to the party I bet you can at least be close to 10k

I would just start contacting everywhere and asking for their pricing

    good luck!

I think in the budget you posted there is a lot of room for changes. First is the cake. That can be cut significantly. Have a small pretty cake made to cut, and have sheet cakes to feed everyone else.

There are a number of wineries in our area - I know there is one in Warwick that is very pretty. I honestly have no idea how much it costs to have a wedding there, but I think you need to look at places other than traditional wedding halls, especially if the wedding is going to be in peak wedding season. The Sunday will definitely help you save some money, but ours was a Friday in November and with tax and tip we were at $100 a head, which is your entire budget for 100 people.

There are also alot of venues in the HV area that are more like 60-80/pp that you might look at.  I know a girl that got married at the grand and her budget was $12K and i believe they do centerpieces and that type of thing.

Hmm what about like a yacht club? I know there's one down the road from my house that they rent out a, I don't wanna say hall, but a building they use for events including weddings. Pics end up coming out really nice because the Hudson River is in the backdrop.

I'm also thinking of somewhere in Cold Spring that I went to a wedding like 2 years ago but it's just not coming to me....
