I just wanted to know peoples thoughts on pre kana as well as the talk with the priest. I am sure everyone is uncomfortable answering certain questions.
Session1 of Precana was not bad at all. We learned alot about each other. Everyone saids "i know my fi for a long time i know everything" well i have been with my fi for 10 years and i learned something new!
Session 2 was painful. Our speaker was awful and it was given by one person as opposed to a couple like session 1
speaking to the priest ran about 45 minutes and was not bad at all. we did the marriage survey and "passed" with flying colors. just basic information about you name, age, where you born, where you did your sacraments, and took CCD or went to catholic school.
We met with the priest a couple of weeks ago. Sitting in front of the priest, I felt like I had to tell the truth..that my fiance and I live together( I couldn't lie..i felt so bad). He (the priest) said that the Catholic religion does not believe in living together before your married and in order to get married in the church, we need to do 1 of 2 things. Either move out, or live like "brother and sister" in seperate bedrooms until you are married. Then he said you can let me know what you decide later on. I was like ok... but the priest has not asked us again. So, I am not sure if he just had to give the "speech" or what. I will let you know. Just think about what you are going to say befgore you meet with the priest and make sure that you discuss it with your fiance and you are both on the same page!!
My fiance and I really enjoyed Precana. Just go with an open mind..you may enjoy it like us!!

my fiancee says since we live apart we are ok with those questions. But pre maritial sex if the priest asks thats the hard part.Pre kana I know its going to be a boring talk but we plan on doing it in one day get it over with.
tomorrow night is the talk with the priest. My friends have said their priests have asked them if they had premaritial sex and they said no. Otherwise Lied. I guess we can make it up in confession.
First its precana not preKana. The priest mostly likely will not as you anything about pre-marital sex. He went through a series of questions individually with each of us when we went in to actually book. The precana sessions usually are done by couples with a priest coming in at some point to speak. BUT this really does vary from area to area. Once you book your date the priest will give you information on where the precana sessions are held and the different ways you can do it (ie, 1x a week for 4 weeks, 2 day long sessions or a weekend retreat). We did the 2 day long sessions, one at the seminary and one at St. Raymond's in the Bronx. The couple who ran the session at the seminary was AWESOME. The couple who ran the one in the Bronx was absolutely horrible and also gave out misinformation when it came to NFP and medical issues a woman may yave. Basically you have to grin and bear it, its over before you know it.
We have done our pre-cana and enjoyed the weekend. My FI isn't religious, but was able to take the word "god" out of a lot of things and still find usefulness in the exercises.
Also have met with priest and so far no sex questions. We live together and didn't try and hide that. We are meeitng with him again this Friday to turn in our sacramental papers etc. I am just hoping we can keep the meeting to an hour...this guy is a talker!!
