Publick House-Sturbridge

Hey all- looking at a lot of venues in the area (love historical sites) and it  looks like Publick House in Sturbridge is definetly the cheapest with a winter wedding package starting at $28 per plate! Can anyone give me the lowdown on this place? Do you get a lot for your money? Sounds like a great package but I'm hesitating because its SO much cheaper than most other places!! Any insight from previous brides or attendees would be most welcome! :-) Thanks!

I'm having my wedding there next month.  I've been happy with everyone that I've worked with.  Laura and Cathy are very quick to respond to phone calls and emails.  The food is great! You'll find out at the tasting! I think $28 is a great value! We're paying $40 for turkey and $46 for prime rib.  Plus the cake is included.  Not everyone offers that.  Plus, you and your H gets stay the night at the inn for free on your wedding night.  Ok, I'm sure it's all in the price, but it's nice to be able to stay there!

I think that if you're going for the historical vibe for your wedding, you can't go wrong with the Publick House.  Plus, your guests can stay at the inn after the wedding.  A lot of our friends are staying over, too.  Here's a tip: the room rate is cheaper on Priceline.com for rooms at the motor lodge.

Are you looking to have your ceremony there as well? We're having our ceremony at the Federated Church across the street.  We've been happy with the church as well.  Rev. Jackson is very easy to talk to.  I've been enjoying our pre-marital counseling.

Thanks for the quick reply!! I was thinking about having the ceremony in Paige Hall as well- then out to the barn for the cocktail hour and have them transform the place for the reception.

How much is the Federated Church? I like that you are able to get premartical counseling from the pastor there!!

I have heard that the hotel rooms at the motor lodge are not so great...were you able to take a tour of them plus the room for your overnight?

What are you doing for the drinks situation? Trying to figure out what the best option is, I dont want a full open bar, maybe the wine beer and soda station...

Any other tips? Thanks for all the advice.! I cant wait to hear how your wedding goes!

The church is going to be around $800 (including cost of organist).  The counseling consists of 3 meetings with the pastor. 

I didn't tour any of the motor lodge rooms, but yeah I've read they're nothing spectacular.  I saw the two rooms they use for the bride and groom.  They're what you would expect in an old inn.

We're having an open bar and doing the cap.  At first we were going to do the option of paying per person, but there are a bunch of people who don't drink or would only have one, so we thought the cap was the best option.

I've stayed at the Publick House once a year for about 5 years now when I go to Brimfield for antiquing.  The Motor Lodge is where I stay because it is pet friendly and I travel with my dachshunds.  The motor lodge isn't spectacular but it is clean, well kept, you can get adjoining rooms, and there are little decks off the back that overlook the woods with slider doors.  Also, the service from the staff is absolutely impeccable.  If you're missing anything or need anything extra, a towel, pillow, whatever, they're right on top of it.  Yes, the Inn is gorgeous, but the motor lodge is also fine and people can hang out there, order in pizza, whatever they need and parking is easy.  Also, the Sunday brunch is outstanding.

The rooms in the lodge are decorated with toile wallpaper in varying colors and the decor matches the color of the wallpaper.  It's kind of silly but it's cute.

I went to a wedding there a few years ago and it rates as one of the BEST weddings I have ever been to. At the time I was a vegetarian, and the veggie option was above and beyond the usual. Also, it's so rustic and old New England. It's beautiful. If this was closer to where I lived and where my guests lived, I would have looked into it. There are also rooms for your guest in walking distance, a big plus.
