Food Reviews for These Venues

I'm wondering if anyone has attended a wedding at any of the following venues and what they thought of the catering? For my fiance and I food is very important! We would love to do a tasting before we even chose the site but apparently that's not an option, so I'm looking for the opinions of people who have attended an event. And of course if you can remember a specific item that you loved that would be great!

Institute of Comtemporary Art-It is Wolfgang Puck catering
Alden Castle-
State Room-Same catering company as Alden I believe
Cyclorama-I think we can bring in any caterer we want here...any suggestions?
Artists for Humanity-Again there is a list of caterers to choose from. http://afhboston.org/epicenter_preferredvendors.php

Also has anyone ever used/eaten from East Meets West Catering Company?

Re: Food Reviews for These Venues

  • My wedding is at the State Room and the quality of the food is one of the big reasons why we booked there (in addition to the view, of course). We are doing filet and salmon, and both were INCREDIBLE. They also have a huge range of menu options and will create almost anything that you want. But, really, I don't even like Salmon and I enjoyed it so much I wasn't sure which meal to choose. They have an in-house chef but maybe he works at Alden Castle too.

That being said... the State Room has been somewhat difficult to work with. We have had FOUR wedding coordinators since we booked and, although they have all been fantastic, it has been tough switching to different planners. I think there's a high turnover because of the stress of event planning. Their cake person is I Dream of Jeannie and she's AMAZING.

So, overall, I'm very excited to have my wedding there. It's a beautiful space and the food is amazing. Good luck!
  • Thank you so much for this feedback. I was super impressed with the menu and viewbook they provided for both State Room and Alden. But anyone can take good pictures. I'm glad you said the tasting was also good.

Also good to know about the multiple wedding planners. That's a little frustrating. I would definitly not want to start from scratch with someone new every few months. When you get someone new is it an issue? Do they at least return emails/phone calls.

Yes, the viewbook is incredible! And, honestly, the food at the tasting looked EXACTLY like it did in the pictures. They don't skimp on presentation at the State Room. I've been to a few events there for work as well and I've been very impressed with the attitude and professionalism of the serving staff too.

We have never had an issue with not being able to get in touch with one of our coordinators, and they have been really great about transitioning. Each time we received a new coordinator, they were fully briefed on all the details of the wedding and ready to start from where we left off with the last person. Most of the time, we would have a joint meeting with our coordinator who was leaving and her replacement to make sure that we were okay with the change. For me, it's important to feel really comfortable with who I'm working with and know that I can trust them to do a good job, so I felt like I would get to that place with one coordinator just to be switched to another and have to do it all over again. That was the most frustrating thing but I have yet (fingers crossed) to be assigned a coordinator who hasn't gone above and beyond to help plan my wedding.
  • Both Cyclorama and artists for humanity let you bring in your own caterers. They are both big open spaces, but with a very different vibe. My daughter loved both but we were worried about parking at the cyclorama- would have to hire a valet service. For caterers check out Seasons to taste. Extradinary. My daughter is a huge foodie lives in Ca now but was in Paris for a time. You can set up a tasting-there is a charge applied to cost if you book. It is actually a chefs table meal and it was wonderful in and of itself.
  • E-

I've been to events at both the State Room and the Cyclorama.  While the food at each was good, there was little comparison.  The State Room won hands down.  I also can't say enough about how gorgeous the space is.   I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about how hard they are to work with, but the quality of the events rarely seems to suffer in the end.

We did a tasting with East Meets West and the food was very good.  If we could have afforded them, we would have used them without question.   I'll also second the recommendation of Season to Taste.  Finally, I'll add to the mix (if you have the option of your own caterer) Chive Sustainable Event design.  I know the two women who run it, and they are outstanding.  I can't say enough good things about the beauty and quality of the events they put on.  If they'd had availability, I would have booked them in a heart beat.

    Hope this helps!
