Bummer - no hard alcohol allowed!

So I just found out today, 5 months out, after being led to believe something else, that we're only allowed to serve beer and wine at our reception. Really not happy about this but trying not to turn bridezilla about something that probably doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things (key word "trying").

A girl I work with (trying to make me feel better) suggested "cocktails" with prosecco or sparkling wine. So I thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions. She also suggested something like sangria.

I appreciate any suggestions!

Are you allowed to have Champagne?  You could always make some sort of fun spritzer type drink!

That sucks to find that out only 5 months out, I'm sorry. But I do love champagne/prosecco drinks. Look at the website menu for City Bar, they have a bunch of really tasty ones (some probably have liquor in the them, though). I also love sangria, red or white, and all of those will be really nice in August.

It's extremely frustrating to find out something this big only 5 months out, but it sounds like you are handling it really well. If you have some fancy mixed sparkling drinks, people will hardly even notice.

Yea Im trying, I keep going back to being depressed and have to keep reminding myself "this is not what matters, this is not what matters"

Champagne cocktails are really good! Don't worry about it, honestly it's not going to make or break the wedding.  Most people don't strictly drink just liquor, so your guests should be OK!

i would rather drink champagne or prosecco or sparkling wine over any type of other hard liquor!  your wedding would be my dream come true!  look at it this way....your venue just forced you to have only the most fabulous and classy alcohol around!

    You could do something like:

Peach Bellini's - a spoonful of peach puree topped up with champagne (made famous by Harry's Bar in Venice).

Kir Royale - I think this is a splash of Chamboard with champagne

Float blueberries in champage - the float up and down on the bubbles.

You can also use a Napa sparkling wine (check out Mumm Napa or Gloria Ferrera), or Prosecco (from Italy) or Cava (from Spain) as a cheaper alternative to Champagne.

You could even have a "champagne bar" and do one of those displays where they pour the champagne from the top.

Keep smiling - your guests will be there to celebrate with you and not for hard liquor :D
