Tipping etiquette?

Hello ladies!

In general, are you supposed to tip your photographer and DJ?

If so, do you tip the 10-15% of the bill? Or is there a standard $$ amount that you tip, no matter how much the bill comes out to?

Thanks!

The typical rule is, you tip those who don't own their own business.

For ex. my dj worked for a larger DJ company- so they received a tip. My photog works for herself, so technically you don't have to tip her because her money is only going to her. (we did end up tipping though)

Obviously if you think any vendor has gone above and beyond and deserve a tip, then tip. I'm not sure about the standard percentage... I just did what my husband and I were comfortable giving.

I think if they own their own business you don't tip. This would be true for everyone from a photographer, dj, hair and makeup people, and day of coordinator. I think if you are going to make an exception and tip those who go above and beyond, that is nice. I don't think it would make sense to tip an independent hairstylist on the wedding day and not tip the DJ though.
