Red Lion Inn, Cohasset

Has anyone been to a wedding at the Red Lion Inn?  I have booked my wedding here for July for 2010.It's a day wedding, and then we plan to rent out the jazz club for a few hours afterwards.  As I'm sure is the case with other venues, the RLI has horrible reviews!  this worries me.

I went to a wedding there a few weeks ago, and while I thought it was a beautiful venue and the food was great, it was HOT - like 90 degrees hot inside the reception.  It was actually cooler outside than inside.  I heard that their air conditioning wasn't working properly and they also had the doors to the pool area open the entire time.  If I was getting married there in the middle of the summer I would definitely have some conversation about the air conditioning system.

Our wedding reception will be there in January (same thing as yours-- Cave du Roi for the afterparty). Our ceremony is at Second Congregational. I have found them to be a bit scattered-- it seems as though their job responsibilities change frequently and that, for a small outfit, the inn side does not always know what the events side is doing and vice-versa (internal communication is not a strong suit). I have had some issues having phone calls and emails returned promptly (which I find irritating), but my mother has done the bulk of the communication with Denise (who is handling our event) and has been happy with the help she's provided.

I got married there July of this year and had a great day. They don't make the planning process the easiest and you really need to call rather than email them about anything important. BUT they day of was absolutely great, the place was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the staff did a great job of setting up, serving, etc. I definitely don't regret using them.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Yes I think I will speak with Denise about providing Industrial Fans as a back up to the Air Conditioning not working to par. Is plated dinner the way to go for sure?  Our wedding is from 12-5pm with an afterparty to follow.  We were thinking with the reviews of the dinner coming late etc that maybe it would be less complicated and with an afternoon wedding more casual/fitting to have stations.  Also, maybe more affordable?  Has anyone done this or have experience with this? Also, DJ or band?????

We are having a plated dinner as it was the better deal. We are also havign a jazz combo for cocktail hour (on the balcony) and a DJ for dancing. A band just wasn't in our budget.

Hello GreeneDaly wedding.  We are also getting married at the Red Lion (in August 2010) and have all the same concerns... Denice has been great to work with but we did hear from another couple who recently got married there that the heat in the barn was a big issue.  Apparently the air conditioning wasn't working and really made for the entire place to be unbearable.  I was wondering if you've had any conversations with them regarding the A/C or any alternatives?
