Attention married ladies re: name change!

Hey girls, Getting married in two weeks....holy crap. I am going on a delayed honeymoon in January so I have plenty of time to change my license and passport to make them match. But, do you guys know which agencies and companies actually require original certifications of the marriage certificate? The RMV? Social Security Administration? Passport? Banks and credit cards? Employers and schools? Car registration -- wouldn't that probably be under the RMV's responsibility anyway? Car insurance? Cable and electricity company? Post office? Voters registration? **at least my mortgage is solely in my FI's name** Thanks in advance, ladies. I really appreciate it. <3

you plane tickets etc need to match your id - if you've already booked your trip in your maiden name you may have to change that? In any case, you take your marriage license to SS first and have it changed there.  You then go to the registry to change your name.  RMV looks things up by SS# some places are able to do same day, depends on the clerk. For credit cards you have to call, no proof needed of the marriage, just that it's you calling. Work will want to see your new SS card before changing your name, however, you can change your benefits right away - you only have 30 days to make changes otherwise you have to wait til reenrollment.Bank just wanted new license, however, if you already have a joint account you both need to re sign so go together. voter registration gets changed with your license i believe everyone else you just call.  if you have a professional license with Mass, you can download the form from the mass.gov site to mail in with your $$.and PS next time you refinance, add your name to the mortgage/deed!

Bonnie, thanks so much for the help! We are definitely adding my name to it when we refinance. It's just that when we bought it, I didn't have a job and I carried most of our debt. Thanks again - the information you provided was soooo helpful! :-)
