Square centerpiece question

Hi ladies,   I don't post very often but was looking for some input.  I've been meeting with florists and getting some different visions/opinions from them.  I know that I want to use a short square vase, and the first couple of florists told me that the standard size was 5X5.  The most recent florist (who I liked a lot) said that she prefers 4X4 because you can stuff it full of flowers and it doesn't look to small etc etc where a 5X5 would be so much more expensive to fill blablabla.  Anyway I guess my question is, if you've used them, or seen them, or talked to florists about them, what do they usually recommend for a short, square vase?  Obviously it would be nice to save money, but I don't want the centerpieces to look tiny either.  Thanks for any input!

Those are both really small. I'm getting 8 x 8 for my low tables, with cool leaves lining the inside, so you don't have to see the stems. I know some people like to see the water, but my florist told me that once you get everything stuffed in there, you don't really see much. I've see where people put bear grass swirled in there, too, but I loved the look of the big varigated (sp?) leave lining the cube. I'm only paying 75 for mine, too. He (Phil Bowler) quoted me 60 and up for the big ones. He said I could do smaller ones for less, but the big one looks beautiful and full.

Sorry, I meant those both SOUND small, I wasn't criticizing! My bad. definitely look into seeing some done up, if you haven't already. Good luck with your decision!

It really depends on your table size.  If your tables are set for 10 people, a 4x4 centerpeice is probably too small.  If you table is st for 8 or smaller (i'm assuming round here), then your closer to the size comparison, but it's still pretty small.  What do YOU want?  Do you want a large arrangement, or a small, understated one?  How important are flowers to you?  Those are the questions that will ultimatly help you in making this decision.  Good luck!!

Can you ask the florist to do mock-ups of them or ask if she has any pictures of each?

I havn't talked to my florist about what I want yet, only booked her. I already bought my vases since she told me 'she'd obviously up charge for vases' which I understood. Anyways, I bought a 6X6 cube. I deff wouldn't go bigger than that...If it's for a table on the bigger size, I think it's perfect, so I'd stick with the 5X5...I think 4X4 is a little on the small size.Good Luck! I love these cube vases!

I had a few 5x5's on 120" round tables. Psst.. I'm selling a three of those vases for really cheap if you want them. See For Sale link.

We used 5x5 cube vases at both my daughter's weddings.  First daughter had tables of 8 or 10, 2nd daughter had tables of 10 or 12.  They looked perfect with the tables all set for dinner.  It may look small on tables that are set up for stations, as there wouldn't be anything on the table except for the centerpiece.  I too think the 4x5 would be too small.  Good luck!  p.s  we are also doing 5x5's for tables of 10 at 3rd daughter's wedding next JUne!

hmmm thank you for all of the input.  The tables will be set for 10, so there will be a lot o0f stuff on the table as far as place settings taking up space, but like some of you said, 4X4 might look small. I will have to ask for mock ups and see.  Its hard to even know without seeing it in front of you!  I guess I don't want them small and understated, but I don't want them to be large either...just right!  haha, and it is also tricky when my mom is helping me and paying for most of it, so how picky can I be as far as size when price comes into play you know?  Now I am just rambling but thank you guys!

I think it depends on the flowers.  For instance, a 4x4 vase holding hydrangeas would look odd, but they may be perfect for tulips.

The coordinator at my venue suggested that the vases shouldn't be any more than 6x6 for a 10 person table (I can't remember the size). She was considering everything that would be set up on the table, and said that was the biggest size before it got too crowded. I agree with pp, maybe you could ask your florist to show you what each size would look like, or you can go to Michael's and see if you can find vases in those sizes to compare.
