Name Change process

Since I've been married for over a month now, I'm thinking it is time to get started with the name change process.  Does anyone know of a resource that gives you the lowdown on what you have to do?  I know that there is the Missnowmrs website, but I'm not crazy about giving out all that personal info or paying extra to get the process done.  Help! Thanks!

You should start at ss office (with your marriage cert), then you may have to wait or you can go over to the DMV (I've heard different things, depending on who is working at the DMV they'll change it the same day, but for the most part, you need to wait for it to be updated in the system for DMV to make their changes). for work, you'll bring in a copy of marriage cert, to make insurance changes you need to do it within 30 days. I think that's about it...

SS office first with your marraige license....then to the RMV, after that you can change your cards, make information, and anything else you have your maiden name on.  I went to SS one day, a few weeks later I went to the RMV...a few weeks after that, onto the bank to get my name changed.  I dragged out the process a little more than I should have...Oh well! You def need to check with work to make sure you haven't missed out on the insurance change (where you go on YH's or vice versa insurance).  I was only given a month to get that done.  I've been married almost a year and I don't have everything done yet.  There are still a few CC's and bank accounts that have my maiden name on it.

For anyone who's using their maiden name as their new middle name, make sure that your bank understands this.  The marriage cert doesn't exactly state your new full name, and in my case, things got lost in translation with my bank rep.  Now I have to go back and change it again and get a new debit card.

Please, please, PLEASE make sure you change your name at SS!! A consumer I work with neglected to do this about 4 decades ago, and now that she's up for retirement benefits, she can't get them because technically, she doesn't exist!
