Average price of a DJ

Hi everyone,I'm just looking to get a ballpark figure for the cost of a dj.  I was thinking around $1500.  Is this typical?  Am I way off?  I haven't started emailing any yet, but I am trying to figure out our budget. Thanks in advance.  Hope everyone is enjoying the nice weather this week.

You have the right idea.. I think the lower end of the "good" DJs are around $900.. but I'm guessing an average of $1300-1500? Also, it might depend on the number of hours your hire your DJ for.

Thinking back over the many posts on DJs, I'd say the typical range is $800-$1500.

800-1500 is price range, I have seen a lot for 1200 -1500 but they were highly recommended.  Also some started at 1500 but were talked down to 1200.

I agree with PP that you are in the right ballpark.  We're paying $800 for Curtis Knight Entertainment which is a great DJ service but we contracted 2008 prices.  That's for 5 hours and no "special effects".  If you want things like lighting, gobos or props you usually pay extra.  And the ceremony tends to be $100 extra.NuImage goes up to around $2600 but I've never seen a DJ go over that figure...everyone else is under 2K.

I think $1500 is a great budget to have for the dj, many of them come in that price range or even lower.  Ours was $1300, which was a little higher than I wanted but my FI really wanted him--We're using John from the Event Connection, we've been to 3 weddings he's done and he was awesome!

A friend of my Father is DJing my wedding for $100/hour.  He normally charges $250/hour.  Ask your family and friends if they know of a good DJ.  That's what I did, and got all my vendors through friends or family for at least half the price.
