First dance song

FI suggested You and Me by Dave Matthews Band for our first dance- I'm kind of on the fence about it, but since he came up with it all on his own, I don't want to discourage him ;)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtxvK-5AOQg I like the song, but don't know if it's really first dance-able.

    i LOVE that song :) It is by far my favorite one on his new album and DH and I actually said had it come out earlier we might have had that instead. I agree that it's kind of has a quick tempo but we danced to Lucky by Jason Mraz and it was kind of the same thing and it worked out fine. I'm sure no matter what you choose will be wonderful :)

    Would you perform the high school sway?  I think the tempo's too quick for that, but your DJ can slow it down for you.  I'm not sure if that would take away from the song though.

    Nah, I think we're a little bit beyond the high school sway (and we can practice it a little bit ahead of time). I definitely don't want to slow it down, it's already 4 minutes long. Maybe it's time to think about a dance lesson or two.

    Didn't realize you want to use the entire song.  Let your dance instructor listen to the song.  S/he will be able to associate the tempo with a particular dance step in 2 seconds.

    Great song!  I hadn't heard of this one.  I would suggest taking a few lessons so that someone can show you what works best with this song.  We took 3 lessons through Liz at Out to Dance and she was wonderful to work with.

    We took two lesons and it REALLY helped. They can set up a dance so it will go with the tempo of the song. If you like the song, I say go for it.

    Ahh I LOVE that song and soooo wish it had been around when we got married last year.  I say do it, but I'm a bit biased because I'm a HUUUGE DMB fan! :)  DH and I danced to another DMB song "Steady As We Go".  It really worked out well length-wise, tempo-wise, and (most importantly) lyrically.

    Just to make a suggestion, now that I'm on the other side... If you are at all uncomfortable being the center of attention, let me tell you how looooooooooooong a first dance can seem.  Endless.  Ours was three minutes and something and I would have sworn it was 30.  Just something to think about that never occured to me.....
