My uncle told me this last week (he lives in Georgetown and is a member of the club), but he said they are still doing functions, just under different ownership.  Apparently the guy who owns (owned?) it is very wealthy guy who didn't pay his bills and now is being bought out.  I don't know the full story but if your wedding is in 28 days, I suggest you start calling them!!Good Luck and keep us updated.  I'd hate to have to find another venue :/

We went to TGC, it's true. The options are 1) they close their doors 100% tomorrow or 2) they may carry out weddings until the end of 2009, which looks grim. Oh, and all of our money is held in their frozen assets if they don't let us have our wedding, and we have to put a claim in with the bank to get it back, which may take a year to get... this sucks.Needless to say my FI and I spend the evening looking for another venue.  Looks like a plan B is in need...anybody know a place on the north shore that can accommodate 200 people?  I'm desperate to call anywhere!

OMG I'm SO sorry to hear of that news. My father is a member there and didn't mention anything about it. If you are open to Salem, we are getting married at the Hawthorne Hotel. The ballroom can accomodate 190. Good luck! So sorry!!

Sorry to hear about this!!! You should start a new thread re: venues in that area.  I'm sure other knotties will rack their brains for more ideas.  I only researched Downtown venues, so unfortunately I'm of no help.

Our ceremony is at Merrimack College - so anywhere in driving distance to there is something we'll consider!I'm taking a day off this week to call/visit venues.  Here's hoping it will pay off -- dang it you think you're ahead of the ball and then WHOOP the rug is pulled out! Thanks ladies -- and GOOD LUCK to all other TGC brides.  Start calling around :(

BTW, did you make those deposits with a credit card?  I did that for most of my vendor payments.  They will back you up on anything and give you a refund.

Of course not, stupid me thinking paying with check is a good move.I'm calling Help me HanK!  jk

Wow I can't believe I am reading this.  I had my reception at the Georgetown Club last night and I hadn't heard anything about this thankfully.  I am truly shocked that this is happening and I wish all the other brides who planned their wedding there the best of luck.

Also close to Merrimack is Salvatores in Lawrence, it overlooks the Merrimack River, or the Bradford Country Club in Haverhill.

I would recommend the Andover Country Club, but I know for a fact that they are completely booked that night. Our coordinator told us that it was a full house that weekend- all of the rooms are completely booked. I'm so sorry that you're going through this- I hope that they'll honor the functions that they booked at least through the end of the year.

We also have our wedding booked at Georgetown for next summer. We found out about this yesterday through a vendor telling us!  I would recommend going to see Indian Ridge CC in Andover. It was our 2nd choice and I was able to call them yesterday (our date was still available so I booked it immediately).Good luck!  I'm going to try to contact Georgetown again tomorrow to actually talk to someone, but it does not sound good.  I know how you're feeling so just hang in there.

Update for you all; an friend from high school was supposed to have hers there, and they told her yesterday with SIX days until the wedding to find a new place. So it sounds pretty final.

Something about this whole thing just seems so wrong on so many levels. They take the deposit and other money then 6 days before they tell someone to find a new place. Wrong, just wrong.

Ekob I can not believe that with 6 days to go they told her to find a new place.  I think my wedding must have been one of their last (if not the last) to be held there.  I don't know what I would have done so close to the wedding with no place to have the reception.  I am seriously thanking my lucky stars that my wedding went so smoothly, I had no idea all of this was going on.

Hi Ladies,I work for WCVB channel 5 and we are doing a news story on the Georgetown country club tonight.  We are looking for brides to talk to us about the venue shutting down.  I was married in June and I can't even imagine what you guys must be going through.  If anyone is willing to talk please email us at WCVB_News@hearst.com (there is an underscore between WCVB and News).  Thanks.

I am a GTC bride as well so I am now searching for new venues (luckly I have 8 months to the day to go... a little bit more time than those getting married sooner). However, I wanted to give you all a heads up. I lady that I work with, her daughter got married at the bradford country club and had the worst experience! money and wallets were stolen from the bridal suit and some of thier wedding gifts and money were stolen while thier reception was taking place. The BCC blamed the incident on thier guests and they wouldnt take responsibility for it. I just wanted to give a heads up to those frantic brides searching!!!! and dont worry, I feel ya, and good luck to everyone!
