I know I am really sad about it too.  There are a bunch of posts further down about this...we all just found out yesterday and there are people getting married this weekend that need to find a new venue with less than a week.I haven't found anything out about getting our deposits back.  I know they won't give them back for awhile but I'm hoping we'll get it eventually.  I kind of have someone on the inside giving me info so I'll post when I get more info.

Oh no! I remember all of your posts looking for a venue after the Casa di Fior thing. At least you have a long time. Did you check out the Andover Country Club? Their rates are very similar to those at the Georgetown Club and it's just as nice if not nicer.

I feel so blessed.  I have had everyone and their mother calling places, and TGC actually found 4 venues for me that had availability on my date.  I'm checking out 3 of them tomorrow - so hopefully all will not be lost... 26 days!!

When I got there yesterday we were told we had to go through the bankruptcy claim process thing -- basically once all of the legal stuff is done, they pay their lien holders in order of precedence, and unfortunately we're pretty low on that list.  We may get it within a year, but definitely not in time to help plan another reception... but hey it will be a nice little bonus sometime in the future :)And every place I have called has been SUPER helpful.Stayseeleigh -- TGC actually told me Casa di Fior has availability for my night, and my photographer called me to tell me he does weddings there all the time, are they NOT closed after all the drama??

Burgundybride, glad to hear that TGC has been helpful- who did they find for you? I hope you are able to book with one of those places!

Hi There..Georgetown bride here as well..well was to be a Georgetown bride on November 21.  We're also having our mass at Merrimack College.  We're both 2003 grads! :)   Just wanted to give a huge plug for DiBurro's in Haverhill.  I called them yesterday morning, went there last night to see the place, and booked it.  They were amazing!  I've heard nothing but goods things about their functions! So, give them a call.  I worked with Kathy and Dave (the owner)

Hey Girls! I feel so bad about this, I was going to look there however we decided to stay more local (we live in the south shore).  I did talk with a friend of mine who is using and knows the owner of a catering company and they would like to help out, I am not going to post any specifics so if you would like their name and info please email me at elizabeth dot luise at gmail dot com.I still can't believe they didn't give any brides warning....

How awful - I feel so bad for all the GTC brides. My heart goes out to all of you.

This is awful. So sorry this has happened to all these brides. One of the women I work with had her mom's 75th birthday part booked there for late October. She was able to rebook at the Bradford Country Club which gave her a break on the price. Also she said the Haverhill Country Club was doing the same thing. Thought I would just pass this info along, I am not a vendor.

Its nice to see the wedding community pulling together to help all of us TGC brides!!! Even though they are benefitting from it in the end...we are out our deposits! So it all really helps :)

I read the article about this in the Globe that stated that a TGCC board member (a local dentist) had paid for the food for the past weekend's weddings there to the tune of 14 grand out of his own pocket. I wonder if that is true. I don't doubt his word, but who has 14K lying around?
  • edited December 2011
leafpeeper, I didn't read the article but the dentist who owns most of TGCC (has the more shares) is the one who screwed this whole thing up.  He SHOULD be paying all of us back out of his own pocket.
