thoughts on searching for a venue

I recently lost our venue due to the Georgetown Club closing and I've been searching all over the north shore for a suitable replacement.  It's really amazed me how much easier it is now that I actually know something about weddings.  Before we just picked a place that just "looked pretty" rather than considering how far it would be for our guests to drive, how close area hotels are where we could block rooms, etc. It's just amazing how much easier everything is now that I have a chance to do it all over again.  We're taking this as an opportunity to bring the reception close to the church, have it in a hotel (built in room block - yay!), and use a package deal to get the centerpeices, linens, etc all taken care of.I'm not happy the TGC closed their doors and screwed us all out of our money (and stressed us out majorly) but this may actually end up working out for the best...

Sherilyn, I'm soo glad to hear it's working out for you! You have a good outlook. Would love to be in your shoes so I could relive the wedding again. How was Germany??

Awww, you have such a great attitude! I'm sure things will work out for the best.  And, even though it drives me nuts every time my mom says this to me, there usually is a reason for everything.

Sometimes thing really do work out for the best.  Our venue closed down in June of this year.  We snagged up another one in a week, and I managed to plan everything again.  Granted we did get a refund, but the stress & arguments leading up to it was the low point. In the end, the wedding was more us, and because our venue cut us a deal -- we ended up spending much less than we had anticipated.

That's a great attitude to have!  :)  I can see how it could be nice (and fun!) to start over with some things! We'll have to see how it all works out in the end.  Keep up your good spirits!!!
