Opinions- BM dresses

So for my BM dresses, I'm having the girls pick out their own style dress.  All the dresses will be knee length, navy blue satin from one of the PoB brands.  (My colors are navy, ivory and a few different shades of pink). For shoes, I'm not really picky, so I just told them to pick out silver shoes. I also considered ivory and pink, but figured silver is the most wearable, and they probably already have some silver shoes.Well, 5 of the bridesmaids think they should all match shoes lol.   I'm trying to be low maintenance here, people!  They think it will look cluttered or not cohesive if they all have different dresses and different shoes.  The others didn't say anything either way, but did ask what shoes I'm going to pick.  I was also thinking of getting some pink flowers made to put in their hair, kind of a smaller version of what I'm getting in white.   Of course I would buy those.Thoughts on any of this?

Oh here's a few examples of dresses that they could pick (not limited to these).  The navy is a lot different in person...the PoB website s*cks for colors. http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=2&sfid=50631&f=http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=2&sfid=50834&f=http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=2&sfid=50836&f=

I think different style dresses with the same shoe is cute, and looks put together all at the same time. If 5 of your BM's think they should have the same shoes, then go with it! Maybe let them choose the shoe since you dont mind, as long as they are silver. I'm sure they will be able to agree on a silver shoe!

Ha, I secretly want pink satin shoes for them but I don't want to ask them to buy pink shoes lol!

I old my BMs to buy any style of dress they want (specific color designer) because they all have different bodies. I have my MOH, 2 BMs and 2 Jr BMs. My MOH has a totally different dress in a different color, but my 2 BMs ended up going with the same dress anyway! And my Jr, BMs have the same dress (so, if your keeping up, there are 3 different dresses). I didn't mean for them to have the same dress, it just worked out that way. I think it's fine to have different dresses/shoes, who's going to remember what kind of shoes they are wearing? Although, in the interest of full disclosure, my BMs dresses are brown and I'm having them get blue shoes (They are cool with it though, one of them is even excited to have blue shoes, lol) and my MOH will have a blue dress with brown shoes. Eh, it's your wedding, you do what you want ;)

I say you pick whatever shoes you want. I think pink satin sounds adorable and bm's expect to have to buy things they don't necessarily love. I was in a wedding with all different shoes and some of the girls picked some not so nice shoes!

Hmm I could do the DB Dyeables or something, not super expensive.... and I'm going to do navy shoes so how adorable would that be?

A friend of mine works for a shoe store and he is giving all of us a discount - Plus I am letting my BMs pick out the shoes they want. I also have the place I'm bringing them to that only costs $8 to dye the shoes - Hell, I'll pay for the dye job myself! Although, my MOH should have an easier time with her shoes since they are brown

Oh I forgot to mention, I'm planning on getting matching blue shoes for my something blue - I'm so excited to get them!

Hmm smart Mandah!  AlwaysaBridesmaid, you have a point, there's one in particular who i just don't know about haha.  Love her to death but the shoes could be a wild card.

Ekobs, I like the idea of the different styles for the girls however I do agree (IMO) that the shoes should match since they are knee/tea length dresses.  It will look a bit more put together.  With that being said, I believe I am having my girls order pink Satin ones (which I think are reusable) PIB.  HTH

jesus style brown leather gladiator type flat sandalsOMG I was thinking along the lines of like 2001 style platforms as a nightmare.   How much would you all expect to spend on shoes?
  • edited December 2011
Yeah I def would go inexpensive. Maybe I could even find pink shoes for cheaper than dyeables.  wheels are turning lol.

Kobs, I think it is under attire.  I cheered at Endicott, did you cheer?  I love the shoes I got and the girls like them so either I will have them get them and remove the broach on theirs or maybe get DB dyable...not 100% but I love the pink shoes!

Those are my shoes but I went with a couple of my BM's and tried on the dress with the fuschia wide ribbon (black dresses) and I brought them just to see, and LOVED them and so did they.  They are $79, but the dress is very inexpensive.  I am not 100% as I said that they will have the same (is it bad if we all have the same ones??) but I love the color and idea of it.

I didn't read all the replies, but my bridesmaids also wanted me to tell them what shoes to wear. They preferred silver to navy--more wear-again-able. I ended up making a shortlist and holding a vote, and we ended up with very neutral but classy shoes. It's funny--once I aggregated the preferences, what was left was something simple and unobjectionable. I think the flowers are a cute idea, and if they want matching silver shoes--go for it!

Pink and navy blue has really grown on me as a color combo, I say go for it with the matching shoes! My girl's shoes aren't matching because their dresses are long, but if you can get your girls to agree on a shoe I say go for it!

I love it. I can visualize it. Pink hair flower and all.Btw, as a guest, I never notice the bridesmaids' shoes.

If you think your girls would wear pink shoes again, go for it.  If not (my girls would not have), go with strappy silver sandals.

And like Meaghan, I also love that second dress!

Thanks for the opinions everyone! Just to clarify, they will prob all have different dresses, in the same material

LOVE the first and third dresses the best...esp that last one, so cute! I actually prefer to see different shoes. My girls wore knee length dresses from Aria, there were 3 shades of bright pink (7 girls), each girl had their own style dress, and all picked their own gold shoes. I think it looked awesome. They all looked great together and at the same time had somewhat of an individuality. Plus as people said before not many people will really notice the shoes.
