I am still in my pearly planning stages so there's a lot I don't know but I can recommend a good venue for a bride on a budget since I am one as well.  : )

Colonial Inn in Norwood, NJ is one place. It was the first place I looked and the only reason I didn't book it right away is because I wanted to look around and see other places, but it's still in the running.

I thought it was nice on the inside. I didn't love that the outside was basically just the parking lot and the small area to the side for pictures but you can always have pictures done somewhere else. They have a nice chapel room, a seperate area for cocktail hr, they only do one wedding at a time and there's a nice outdoor patio as well.

The menu seemed good and ful of lots of choices. The staff there was friendly and helpful and the pricing was the cheapest I've seen yet although that depends on what you're looking for. For your typical wedding package on a saturday evening pricing is well below $100 per person.

I think it's definitely worth looking into. It's in NJ but 5 mins over the border of Rockland.

    Good luck!

Try graziellas in white plains for the bridal shower!

They did an amazing job for our rehearsal dinner ( which was small) but I know they have larger rooms.

What county are you looking in?

I am a bride on a budget as well and I was looking on Long Island to start but after we moved to Westchester I decided to check out places around the area. I booked VIP Country Club in New Rochelle, NY. I gave the guy my budget and what I wanted to pay per person and he didnt even come back at me with a higher number he just said sure that works!

It was the most stress free meeting I have ever been in. If your interested his name is Michael and he is fantastic!

He also let us set up a personalized payment plan because my sister is getting married in October and my Father needed to spread the payments out.

    So far HIGHLY recommended

Colonial Ballroom Cortlandt Manor, is great, but not a very big space, and very budget friendly.  I didn't take it because it would have been to far from my church and realisticly not big enough for the amount of guests we are having.

Holiday Inn Fishkill is bigger, budget friendly, and was what I ended up going with.  Both definitely worth checking out though.

Graziella's does a nice job...you may also want to look into Sunset Cove in Tarrytown for the shower.

Congrats on your first year of marriage!  That’s wonderful that you want to help your friends out!  Like everyone has said, “where” in the Hudson Valley are they considering would help alot. But for reasonable priced venues on the east side of the river:

This is what I posted a few months back for someone who was looking to stay in the $100 range:

Here are some places in Dutchess: The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel, Christos, The Links in Lagrangeville, Villa Borghese, Arbor Ridge, Fishkill Holiday Inn, Dutchess Manor.

In Putnam: Putnam National Golf Club! (That's where we are getting married:) Villa Barone (on Fridays and Sundays they will fit your budget). Also look into Chalet on the Hudson in Cold Spring.

In Danbury: Danbury Plaza Hotel, Anthony's Lake Club, And check to see if Ethan Allen hotel is having any specials.

In Northern Westchester: Ceola Manor, Hollowbrook Golf club, Colonial Terrace, Mount Kisco Holiday Inn.

These are all traditional ballroom settings, there are also a host of restaurants with banquet rooms that would fit as well. Not sure what you are looking for, but hope this helps.

    Good luck! Hope this helps!

Also, I’m not sure where they are looking, but Jean Jeacques caterers (the caterer we are using at Putnam National Golf Club) at a bunch of their locations has a Saturday minimum of only 50 people. And Putnam has a gorgeous room for smaller weddings.

Villa Borghese does a beautiful job, my sister got married there last march.  They gave her a tremendous deal for off season as well.  I would have gone there, but didn't want to have the same wedding as my sister.
