Ouch!  That sounds so painful!  I don't know what to do about ingrown toe nails, but hopefully someone can help you out.

If you got to the point of screaming and crying it may actually be infected :(  I had one a million years ago, and while it wasn't bad enough to go to the hospital, I needed to see a doctor to have it drained (gross), and treated with antibiotics. In the meantime, I think a bottle of wine has your name ALL over it.

Go to a podiatrist you can fix it for you.  It can get infected if not treated.

Thanks Evs! A bottle of wine just might be the cure (isnt it usually for everything??) Im leaving work early at least to go home and see whats up. I put Becetracen (SP?) on it this morning and a Band-Aid and that seems to kill the pain. I really dont want to have it drained I am PETRIFIED of that! Wish me luck!  :)

You could try soaking it in a warm soak of water and epson salt.  That will usually help soften the surrounding skin and any piece of nail that was leftover (and also soothes the pain) good luck :)!

Holy Crap!1 Wipe your instruments off with alcohol or betadine. Be sure to get the undersides of your nail clippers, as that is the cutting surface that will be against your skin. Step 2 Put 2 capfuls of povidone-iodine (Betadine) solution, into 1/2 gal. warm water. Put your foot in the water and soak for 10 minutes. Step 3 Dry foot thoroughly and then insert nail clippers under the nail border. Step 4 Clip out the ingrown toenail at a slight angle. Try not to cut your skin - keep the bottom of the clipper as close to the bottom of the nail plate as possible. Step 5 Grasp the corner and gently pull it out, once the nail is cut. Step 6 Wipe the area gently with an alcohol or a betadine-soaked gauze pad or cotton swab. Step 7 Soak your toe for 20 minutes each day in the Betadine solution for three days, or until soreness is gone. After soaking, dry gently and apply an adhesive bandage and some antibiotic cream. Step 8 Insert a sliver of cotton between the nail and the skin, for a few days. This will keep pressure off the toe. Remove the cotton as soon as the nail begins to grow out and away from the toe. Step 9 Wear loose shoes or go barefoot as much as possible, while your toenail is healing. Your goal is to eliminate any pressure from pushing against your toe. Step 10 See your podiatrist for chronic ingrown toenails. He may manipulate and elevate the end of your nail to prevent pressure on soft toe tissue, or correct the problem surgically.

Dont put any ointments on it! I had one before and I did this and it is what made it get infected. Just keep it clean and air it out. call the doctor too

I would go to a doctor. I get them from time to time and they are painful. However, the type of pain that you're describing sounds like it's infected. Good luck.

Sounds weird, but go get a pedicure.  My husband gets them bad so I talked him into getting a pedicure (was originally really against it) and they get them without killing you. I'm telling you, the wonderful ladies at the nail shops know what they are doing!

Thank you ladies for all of your help! Unfortunatley I was unsuccessful in retrieving the nail last night. The pain after was so bad! And now I have been on the phone all morning trying to get an appointment with a Podiatrist and its almost impossible! Half are not in my network, and the other half dont see patients on Monday (I am off Monday so it would be a good day for me to go) About the pedicure FT...THATS why I have this damn problem lol. My friend, who is a nurse, actually told me to go to this lady she gets her pedicures from cuz she always gets out her ingrowns. I am just so scared now cuz my toe is very tender. There is nothing "coming out" anymore so I am gonna guess whatever was infected is gone. I am just keeping it wrapped during work and then barefoot at home. Please pray a Dr calls me back soon so I can get this taken care of once and for all! Thanks again! :)
