Question for Killian09

I saw your post on the Honeymoon board and was wondering if you could tell me how long you were in Italy and what you paid? I'm looking to go there on my honeymoon, but only have a week to go, so I was also wondering which cities you would recommend for our timeframe? Thanks!

We were in Italy for 13 days. For one week, I would suggest sticking to 2 destinations. Where you want to go depends on what type of trip appeals to you. One possible itinerary would be Rome, Pompeii, Amalfi Coast. Start in Rome (say 2-3 nights). You stop in Pompeii en route to Amalfi (the train stops there, so you don't have to stay the night). Spend 3-4 nights in Sorrento, and then take the train back and fly out of Rome or Naples. You can see the ancient ruins (Colosseum in Rome + Pompeii), the Vatican (Michelangelo's Sistene Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica in Rome), and then relax and take in the beautiful countryside and sea on the Amalfi Coast. (I recommend staying in Sorrento, and then making day trips to Capri, Positano, and/or Amalfi.) You could fly into and out of Rome for this itinerary. Another option would be to see Florence and Venice, and possibly one other Tuscan town--like Siena. In Florence, you get a major dose of Renaissance art (reserve tickets in advance to see Michelangelo's David, and the Uffizi Gallery). You can take a day trip tour of the Tuscan countryside (like the bike tour we did, though there are other options if you aren't into biking). And/or take a bus to another smaller Tuscan city (as we did to Siena), and spend 1-2 nights there. Then take the train to Venice and see the impressive St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace and get a flavor of that crazy place. Those are two ideas that would make some geographic sense and provide a blend of city/country, and art/history/relaxation. But there are other combos that could also work (e.g. Rome + Florence if you are big city people or art/history buffs). Get the RIck Steve guidebooks--there are a few different recommended itineraries in there that helped us plan our trip. I can send you budget information, etc., if you send me an email: jasmine51709@gmail.com ...hope that helps! I'm sure you guys will have a great trip. Let me know if you have other questions.
