9-19-09 vendor reviews

Hi ladies. I was much more of a lurker during my planning process, but the vendor reviews were very helpful when I was planning, so I wanted to share the great vendors I used.      Reception- Hyatt Regency Boston:  A+++ We were treated VIPs from the moment we walked in.   Jennifer our coordinator was amazing throughout the whole planning process. The Hyatt is fantastic. The ballroom is gorgeous.  We keep getting compliments on the reception, especially the food.  We looked at a lot of reception sites and the Hyatt had everything we wanted.  I can’t say enough great things about them. The whole staff was attentive and made sure our guests were taken care of.   My whole family felt like we got a lot for our money at the Hyatt, everything was included.  There were no surprises or hidden costs.  I can’t recommend the Hyatt enough for brides looking for a city wedding without breaking the bank.   Photographer-Laura Beals: A++ As soon as we first met with Laura we clicked with her.  She was a pleasure to work with.  Laura always responded to emails quickly.  Her pictures are gorgeous.  Everyone who sees them mentions how great the photos are.   Many guests have comments that the photos are great, yet they don’t remember seeing the photographer during the reception.  Laura knows how to capture moments without being obtrusive.  She even bustled my dress on the public garden- which was not something she had to do.  Laura was one of my favorite vendors.     Dress- Brides Against Breast Cancer: A I got an Eve of Milady dress that sells for over $5,000 for $1,400.  I loved my dress.  I knew it was my dress the minute I saw it.  I went with my mom and BFF.   The whole event was fabulous. I did the pre-sale and paid the fee.  I even got a crystal tiara that matched my dress at the sale too.  The tiara is now a family heirloom.  I would highly recommend going to future sales.  Its also wonderful knowing the money for my dress went to a great cause.   I went to the sale at Bloomingdales in September 2008.     Alterations- Bridal Fashions and Alterations in Wayland: A  Sienna did an amazing job with my dress.  Because it was sample it needed a lot of work, including being taken in a lot, and a few beads replaced.   The dress was perfect.   It fit me exactly, it looked amazing.  It couldn’t have looked better.   It was ready for me on time, all my appointment went smoothly.  My mother got her dress altered there too and it came out great as well.  She’s a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.  I highly recommend Sienna.     DJ- Dan McCarthy: A++ Dan was fantastic.  He kept the dance floor packed all night.  We got so many compliments on him, even from my parents friends who I wouldn’t expect to compliment a DJ.   He had great suggestions for music and knew how to keep the party going.  For the quality of his work, his rates were VERY reasonable.  I know if he is a favorite on the boards, and I also highly recommend him.     Flowers- Ken’s Flower Café: A Ken is so nice and pleasure to work with.  He had great ideas, and made sure that we didn’t over spend.   My bridal bouquet was the one thing I had a photo of, and it came out exactly how I wanted it.   I would highly recommend him.     Hair- Deborah Marcinowski of Simply Blissful: A++ Deborah is fantastic.  She came to my house and did my hair, the 6 bridesmaids and my mom.  Everyone was beautiful.  I loved my hair.  I wanted  a slight alteration from the trial, and she made it exactly how I wanted it.  It stayed in place all night.  I got tons of compliments.  Deborah was also great to have around the morning of the wedding.  She was nice and calm when I was a bundle of nerves.   Make Up- Marcy Fluckiger : A++ I cannot say enough about Marcy.   Marcy was a joy and made me feel absolutely beautiful.  She also came to my house.  She did an amazing job on me, my bridesmaids, and my mom.  We had an after party that went past midnight and one of my friends comments how my makeup looked as good as when I walked in the church.  She was referred to me by a friend who also used her for her wedding.   She used to work for Trish McAvoy and is now independent.  I highly recommend her.   Flukesy at  yahoo.com   DVD- Custom Wedding Films:  A (pending dvd) Erin was completely unobtrusive during the day.   She even helped bustle my dress during photos in the public garden.   Her prices were very reasonable based on the quality of her work.  I’m very excited to see the dvd.   LeLimo (Transportation): A  Everything went smoothly, no problems at all.  We got the Land Yacht, which was gorgeous!  It fit the whole bridal party and our parents.  It was great being able to move around in the limo while standing, and not having to squad (especially in a wedding dress).  It was a classy way to transport a lot of people. LeLimo was professional from the moment we first met with them to the end of our wedding day.   Cake-Konditor Meister: A The cake was included in our package at the Hyatt.  We had the choice between KM and Montillo and preferred KM’s cake and was a little turned off at the service we received at Montillos.  The cake was exactly what we wanted.  The service at the tasting was great.  No complaints.   Shoes and  Jewelry- Shoes to Dye For: A+ I’m from Natick, so all my prom shoes and bridesmaids shoes have come from Shoes to Dye For.   They rock.  They know their shoes.  The selection is huge.   They let me borrow hair clips for my trial.  I highly recommend them.      Bridesmaids Dress- Aria: A The girls loved the dresses. I picked the fabric and everyone picked their own styles.  They weren’t too expensive. No complaints.   Great customer service.   Favors- Photobooth Favors: A This was a big hit.   Some of my favorite photos are from the photobooth.  Even our older guests got into this.  It was well worth the price.  We got the photos on CD and doubles of the pics.  They were great to work with.  I really liked how it had our names and wedding date on the photos.   Invitations- an Etsy seller: B+   The invitations were perfect.  Exactly what I wanted and at great price.   The seller was also supposed to do menu cards, table numbers, and escort cards.  A month before the wedding I contacted the seller to get started on the items.  I received no response for two weeks after several emails and calls, and hired another seller.   The seller did eventually contact me and let me know that she was out of the country and was prepared to do the paper products in time for the wedding but I had already paid someone else at that point.  Otherwise it would have been an A for the invites and why I’d rather not list her name.   Menus, Table Numbers, Escort Cards- Etsy Seller  platinumdesigns: A   She made my paper products in a hurry, exactly as I wanted them, and I couldn’t be happier.  Highly recommend.   Hyatt Regency Maui (Honeymoon):  A+  The Hyatt was amazing.  Maui was wonderful.  We were there for ten days.   I would definitely stay at the Hyatt if/when  we go back to Maui.

Thank you for the review of the Hyatt!  I'm getting married there in the Spring and really appreciate the feedback.  Jennifer is wonderful, I agree!  If you have any other insights/suggestions, I'd love to hear them as well.

Everything went so smoothly at the Hyatt, I really don't a ton of advice.  Jennifer knows what she's doing, I never had any problems.  I would definitely trust her advice.  The hardest part was picking the meals options because everything was so good.  We haven't stopped getting compliments on the food.  We got the filet, pancetta wrapped chicken and halibut.  We loved the clam chowder at Avenue One (the Hyatt's resturant) and ended up using that as our first course.  Its not normally on the wedding menu, but we just asked.   If you want something done a certain way, just ask.  And enjoy the tasting!  It's so much fun. You'll eat a ton.   If you think of any specific questions, I'm more than happy to answer them.
