Tough News....

Just wondering if anyone else is going through the same thing and how they are handling it. My FI is in contruction and lost his job in January due to the company having a lack of work. It was a long 5 months, but in May he went back to work. Well today he just found out the the company he is working for is laying off their workers due to the fact that their work has come to a hault. It is just a difficult time to be going through this when we are planning a wedding and trying to by a house. =( I am trying to stay strong and keep it together. He is a licensed contractor and can always find work on his own (if there is any out there)so I know we will get through this, I just don't know how. I wouldn't want to be on this roller coaster ride with anyone but him. At least we have our health and I still have a good job. Thanks for letting me vent.

Just want to say, hang in there!!!  I know a ton of people in architecture/construction/contracting who have been laid off (some multiple times) over the past year--it's really hard.  One friend of FI's is a plumber & his wife is a housewife and they have 5 kids & he has been laid off a couple times and had to work odd jobs here & there to make any money.  This economy sucks!!  You sound like you are really holding it all together well and doing a great job of keeping good spirits.  Eventually things WILL GET BETTER!!!  *hugs & good vibes*

I'm sorry :(It's just the nature of the construction industry.  Can he look into doing something else during the slow months, even if he just works retail somewhere, to bring in some money?

Thanks for the kind words. He is looking to take the civil service exam in the spring to bring in steady income and allow him to work in the trade on his off days. But, he does work a night job right now that helps pay the bills but doesn't allow us to save anything.

Sorry to here that! FI also does construction, infact as soon as we moved in to our apartment he got layed off. It sucks! A month later they called him back, but everyone week he says, this job is almost done and theirs nothing lined up and then at the last minute they start something new...They have already layed off a bunch of people, luckily FI has been there for a long time and is usually one of them last to go...Hang in there!
