Save the date issues

I ordered the business card sized magnet from vistaprint for my save the dates, but now I'm wondering how I should mail them - just put them in an envelope by itself or attach them to a card somehow? Also, I know they don't need to be too formal since its not the invite, but is it better to use printed labels or hand write the envelopes? Any suggestions?

I received a small magnet STD (super cute!) just recently and it was just put in a regular size envelope and I felt it to be a bit tacky.  I think getting a nice piece of card stock and some elmers glue dots would work wonders! But if there is no budget for it...it is only a STD, just send it.  Most people are not going to even think about how it was sent.

What about a smaller envelope?  If you go to Paper Source, they have them

Mine were business card sized and I attached them to navy cardstock and used a RSVP card size envelope (4bar I think it's called).  If you use a smaller envelope, I don't think it's a huge deal.  Whatever you are comfortable with.

You could always attach them to a blank index card.  I got the idea to use those from Eeyore and they are inexpensive and easy to find.  You will have to cut them a bit to fit in an A2 envelope but it should be a quick project with a paper cutter.  This will also make the envelopes less likely to "stick" to each other if you attach the magnet to something.I don't think it's a big deal to use labels.  I'll probably hand write mine but I have nice handwriting so I don't mind doing it.  My sister used labels for the STDs and I didn't think it was a big deal.

Okay, I have to chime in.  I actually got a 4bar envelope in the mail a few months back with an index card inside and an affixed little std magnet... it was terrible  (you all MAY remember carpet swatch?).  Spice it up.  Maybe take a peice of textured cardstock to fit inside a 4 bar envelope-- make some diagonal slits, and slide the magnet into the slits.  It looks like you took a little more time on it and not like you went to Walmart and bought index cards in the office supply section.  Maybe line the envelope to give it some pizazz and (for fun since i'm on a roll here spending other peoples money in head, ha) throw some stamps on the envelope that match your them.  I think zazzle does them?!  Hope that helps!!

Definitely attach them to a piece of cardstock--otherwise they will all stick together in the mail and the mailman will be so mad at you!  You can order it pretty cheap online and cut it to size with a paper cutter.  Use a hot glue gun or craft dots (sold at Michael's) to stick them to the cardstock.  You can preprint the cardstock before you cut it too to make it look nicer.  Like, have a black outline of a picture frame that you stick the magnet into--I think that'd be super cute.Or add your names, initials, the date, location, website, something to the top or bottom.Oh, and I don't think it matters how you address the envelopes.  If you have nice handwriting, just write them out, if you don't, print them.Size A2 envelopes are perfectly sized to fit 1/4 of a 8-1/2x11'' size paper (cut in half lengthwise, then cut in half widthwise).  That's a good size because you can easily print 4/page, then just cut them with a paper cutter, and since it's regular sized paper, won't cost a lot for the cardstock.

When I ordered my magnets they came with small envelop and I sent just the magnet. And they didn't stick together. I never thought about it being tacky. I thought the point of the STD was that it stood alone as a reminder of your wedding.

I attached my magnets to jumbo sized post cards from Vistaprint with clear photo corners. I used the back of the post card to post accommodation information and our website. I also figured many people have stainless steel appliances and our magnets wouldn't work so they would still have the post card to stick on their memo board or something!

I made a backing for ours and put them on there with photo corners - Pics in planning bio under All Things Paper. We used calligraphy, but I think you can just print directly on the envelopes and make them look really nice!
