Mother's Gowns

Anyone have any recommendations where to look for YOUNG mother's gowns (like not stretchy sequens and long sleeved jackets) in the North Shore Area.  I think we're going to check out Lorainne Roy's in Danvers.  I've never been there, though.  Any nearby suggestions?  Danvers, Peabody, Saugus, that sort of area.....  Thanks!

FMIL went to French Bridals in Beverly - her gown is absoutely stunning! They had a very wide variety of styles and her's is so not typical MoB/MoG. I would also recommend checking out Nordstroms in N.S. Mall

I'd suggest department stores: Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's They all have awesome dress departments...I especially love Bloomies & L&T!  Basically the same stores you'd go to if you were going to a fancy company party.  Oh, I just saw you are looking at North Shore...maybe the NS Mall?
Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

Yes - and you can browse the Nordstrom site and live chat with them to see if they have in the store to try on. I took my mother to the Burlington one but she didn't like any of them - I think she wanted more of a typical gown - I was a bit disappointed but at least I got FI's mother away from the stretchy sequens :)

I was wondering about the department stores.  I suppose they're worth a look.  Thanks!

You should definitely check out Lorainne Roy's.  that is where my mom ended up getting her dress.  She looked all the time in department stores and couldn't find anything, although i know a lot of mother's have had luck with them.  So a friend told her about this store, and they were very helpful and was able to find something she really likes.  It's nice to have someone helping you find a dress.  GL!!

I'm not sure when your wedding is, but my mother is actually having her dress made by Emilia Creations in Lexington. She is fairly young and didn't like anything she saw in the stores.

Unfortunately, We barely even have time to order a dress for my mom!  She has this crazy notion that she'll find something, in her size, the first time she goes out and won't have to order anything.  My wedding is February 27th, 2010, so less than 4 months away.  My mom keeps saying she "wants to lose some weight before she tries on dresses."  We made a plan to go out on November 21st, though.

I would check out Lord And Taylor, if you need something off the rack they have a great selection.

My Mom ended up finding hers in a bridal store (Pic in planning bio) but FMIL found hers at Neimans - Good luck!

Both moms got theirs at Nordstrom. Alterations were only about $30.

Both my mom and FMIL had great luck at Lorraine Roy's in Danvers. They had a great selection and the consultants were super helpful and nice. We also looked at French Bridals- the service was not up to par IMO. The consultants didn't help my mom get in or out of dresses and my mother said she didn't think they showed her the attention she deserved. French Bridals didn't listen to what my mother was looking for, and just kept bringing in the most expensive dresses. I would also take a look at Nordstrom's as pp have mentioned. The service at the North Shore Mall is really good but the selection is more limited to cocktail length dresses. GL- this was a tough one for my mom and MIL!

Thanks, again, ladies.  I hope she finds something nice!
