Pregnant, Newly Engaged and Stressed!

So my fiance and I just got engaged Jan. 15 2011(on our anniversary):) I am very excited but here is the thing I'm also two months pregnant so I'm kind of stressing out about when our date should be how am I going to try on wedding dresses because I don't want to wait and my dress isn't perfect. We were thinkin of spring or fall 2013 but I think we should plan after the baby, others is telling me I should plan now, mind u we haven't set a date yet. Also I live in massachusetts and my sister who lives in georgia automatically is assuming that she is maid of honor and I'm kind of sad to disappoint her because I don't think that she can fill the maid of honor duties from out of town and I don't want her to be my maid of honor. What should I do???

Re: Pregnant, Newly Engaged and Stressed!

  • I also agree that it is totally up to you! We have a three year old and we are getting married next year when she will be four, but that was mostly for financial reasons.
We are also really good friends with a couple who got married when their son was a little bit over one, and it worked out really well. They even squezzed in a week long honeymoon while the little one stayed with the bride's mom. And I think it made it easier on the bride's mom that he was a little older.
That said, we also know a couple who got married when the bride was 6-7 months pregnant. They bought a dress at the beginning of her pregnancy, but made sure that it could be easily altered.
Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy and engagement!

  • I appreciate all the great advice from everyone. Your thoughts and opinions have definitely calm me down a bit, I guess just overwelhming myself too soon. Thanks ladies I appreciate it.
  • Is it important for you to be married when the baby arrives?

If yes, then I would say hit up the courthouse with your guy before the baby is due, and then have a recommitment ceremony with all the wedding of your dream details after the baby is born.

I totally understand the MOH dilemma.  I live in CT, my sister (MOH) lives in Maryland and the wedding is in Boston.  There is a lot of texting involved.

Good luck with your decision and congratulations!
