April Wedding?

I just found out that the venue I'm in love with because of it's beautiful outdoor garden might only be available the last weekend in April. Am I crazy to try to plan an outdoor wedding in Boston on April 28th 2012? The place does have good indoor options as well, but I really loved the garden when I saw it.
Thoughts?

If you love it, then book it!  Boston weather is so fickle.  It could rain anytime

My wedding was the last weekend in April, and the sun finally peeked out at 4pm.  It's risky to do an outdoor wedding, but if you like the venue both inside and out, then I would say have your wedding there.  Is the venue flexible with changing from outdoors to indoors in case of inclement weather?  Do they only book one wedding per day?  Or do they book 2 weddings a day, one outdoor, one indoor?  Definitely something to check on.

The other thing I noticed was that this April, nothing had really bloomed.  The trees were still bare, and there were not any flowers out.  I figured Spring would be out in full force by the end of April.  Boy, was I wrong!  Everything bloomed while I was away on my honeymoon!

New England weather changes with the flip of a coin.  If I had an outdoor wedding I'd be nervous about the weather no matter what month it was in.  It's the chance you take.  My BM had her wedding outdoors at the end of April last year and it was a perfect warmer sunny day,  Just make sure you have a back up plan.

You will never be guaranteed a rain-free day in Boston.  If you love it and its available, book it.  Cross your fingers that it doesn't rain.  The past few springs have been pretty rainy, but sometimes it is April, sometimes May.  I kind of feel like you might have a better chance in the fall (like Sept-Oct) but even then, you never know.

Truthfully, if you will be *really* upset if it rains, then you are better off sticking with an indoor venue.

ETA:  oh yeah, and PP was right about the bloom.  It was really late this year.  Even end of April, you might not have a blooming garden if that is what you are hoping for.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! This place only books one wedding per day and so moving it inside wouldn't be a problem if it rains. And while the inside is nice, it's really the garden that I love. But so far this option is the best price and the most convenient location too, so I have a feeling we'll go for it and then cross our fingers about the weather.

Go for it! We're getting married 4/29/11 and I'm not worried about the weather or flowers in bloom.  We're inside with the option of opening the balcony doors for the ceremony and cocktail hour, but I'm not worried either way. In fact with my allergies and sneezing fits, it might better if the flowers aren't in bloom that day....
If you love it, definitely go for it!

As long as you are fine with the indoor option in the event of inclement weather, I would book.  I got married on 4/24/2010 and it was a beautiful sunny day.  That being said, you can't count on the weather being sunny in Boston whether your wedding day is in April or July.  So, you really have to be ok with both the indoor and outdoor options at the venue you book.

I'm getting married the same day and have an outdoor ceremony planned. It's New England and you can hold ubrullas for pics or something and make it fun!

Congrats sarahj, we're getting married the same day! We too want to have our ceremony outside that day. We are getting married at Lake View Pavilion in Foxboro. We are hoping for the best possible weather because it's so beautiful. But we're ok if we have to move it inside.
