Two floor wedding?

I'm looking to get married in this beautiful old farm house. The problem is that it is a two floored venue: 55 on one floor and 22 on the other. How do you feel about the split? We were thinking of putting younger people on top and older relatives on the bottom.

Alternatively, we could do a tent on the grounds, that could set all and more. For an October wedding, I'm a bit nervous about the weather.

well can the people on top see down or are they totally isolated. Honestly.. IMO even if there is a balcony or something I wouldn't do it because then you are making half of your guests miss out on everything... I think the tent may be ok if there are space heater.... any chance you can find a venue with larger capacity?

How is it set-up?  Is everyone able to see everything even if they are on a different floor?  I have never been to a wedding that has been on 2 floors but I know that sometimes when they are in two rooms it can be annoying as a guest.  What is the venue that you are looking at?

I went to a wedding last year that was a harbor cruise around Manhattan, and it was split on 2 levels of the ship. The middle of the top floor was open to the dance floor in the middle of the bottom floor. It was ok, I really can't say I didn't like it because the atmosphere was great, but it did make seeing the special dances and cake cutting difficult, and I do like seeing them at weddings. The different levels also allowed different opportunities to use the space, and those who wanted a break from the dance floor or to dance had plenty of room to do that on the deck and upper level. 

If the barn is open to the lower level, I say go for it, if you love the space. But definitely explore your options.

If there is a balcony that is open so that the people above can see everything, then maybe.  But I've been to weddings also where there is a split in the room and I hated it.  The room that is further away/isolated always feels second best.  You basically are saying that one set of guests is more important than another, no matter what you do, that is the impression guests get.

If it is a balcony, I think that is okay!  But if they can't see the B&G and dance floor, I'd do the tent with heaters.

Nashoba Valley WInery, wanted something very new england and rustic and foliage. The problem is that we live in Brooklyn and visiting venues is difficult. Haven't found anything pretty and farmhouse like otherwise. Suggestions?!

I don't think it is cool to split up the wedding. Ultimately some one feels snubbed or left out and as the host of the day it is not appropriate.

We had an October wedding with inside dining and outside bar and dancing. It was completely fine as the weather was nice, but even so we rented space heaters for $500 a piece. Well worth it for anticipated comfort of our guests.

I looked into Nashoba Winery and had the same conundrum.  I didn't want to split up the guests.  I never bothered to see it in person.  You might be able to get away with the tent with those outdoor heaters.  Might I suggest the Publick House in Sturbridge? That's where my wedding will be next year.  It's very New England and it's off the Mass Pike, so it's closer to Brooklyn than the Winery in Bolton.

thanks! i think we're just going to go with the pavilion. Sturbridge is actually quite far. I grew up in Newton and take the bus to Boston from NY.
