Alterations in Westchester County?

Has anyone bought their dress from one place and had it altered at another?  I am debating buying my dress online because it is so much cheaper and then bringing it somewhere to get altered. 

Does anyone know if I can just bring the dress to any boutique?  Or will they only alter dresses that they have sold?

Or does anyone know a really great person/place that can do alterations?

any help would be appreciated!  Thanks!!

    Be careful buying dresses online -  most of the "designer" dresses that are so much cheaper are priced that way because they are made in China with subpar materials.

    As far as an alterations place in Westchester - Mary and Patty Alterations in Thornwood is great.
