Venue Help...

Hello All,
Just got engaged in December and planning to marry in October of 2011. I've been looking at Wedding Venues and wanted some in-put! :)

1. Dutchess Manor
2. Colonial Terrace
3. Highland Country Club
4. The Grandview
5. Traveler's Rest

Have any of you ever been or had a wedding at one of these venues. The Grandview is nice (been to several events there) but would prefer to be closer to Westchester as my family is from there. The tricky part is finding an affordable venue inbetween Poughkeepsie and Westchester County. The other hitch is that I would like to get married in a church or chapel (Catholic turned Episcopalian) and wasn't sure if there were any churches (comfortably fit 110+ guests) within the areas of the listed venues.
Any and all help is much appreciated! Laughing

I've never been to or had my wedding at Dutchess Manor but have heard great reviews...and I did visit there as a potential venue for us....Dean is amazing and I could have totally seen him taking care of us, our guests, all of it. But, the dates didn't work.

I'd also look into the Poughkeepsie Grand and Anthony's Pier 9.  Both have absolutely fantastic packages.
The grandview is very nice. They put on a very good wedding but IMO they are very expensive.

As for a chapel.  You may have issues finding a chapel that will marry you with you not being  a parishoner but you can try calling the ones in the area of the venue you select.
If you are either a Marist, Mount St. Mary or Vassar grad you can also check into using their chapel.
We got married at the marist chapel.

I have only been to the Grandview (as a guest), but I was definitely impressed.  I thought that it was beautiful, the food was good, and the service as exceptional.

As for being married in a church/chapel that is not yours- you can absolutely do it.  I'm doing it!  You just have to talk to the head priest at that parish to see what they might require or not require.  I'm sure that there are many churches that are large enough to fit your entire guest list (my home parish definitely would), but are you sure that they are all going to come to the ceremony?  I know that the ceremony is actually the part that people should be there to witness, but that's not necessarily what happens... just some food for thought!

    Good luck with the venues!!!

Congratulations on your engagement!  Our reception was at the Grandview, and it was absolutely wonderful! I do not have one single complaint about them (except maybe I wish I could have made the payments with my CC so  I could get airline points for all that money Wink). Our ceremony was at Christ Episcopal Church on Carol St. in Poughkeepsie.  It was in a great location because it was about 5 minutes from both the Grand (where we and all of our guests were staying) and the Grandview.  I was very happy with the church, and the pastor (Rev. Blake Rider) was wonderful!  It's also huge.  We had 149 guests, and there was tons of room to spare.  Good luck with your search!

we got married at Colonial Terrace in cortland manor.  was extremely affordable and just perfect.  there are a couple of churchs right around the corner.  Travelers rest we looked at and was expensive and a little outdated.  colonial terrace is well worth the call.

Try Hollow Brook, its down the road from colonial terrace and the food is amazing!  Blows away the other places and they are totally reasonable

I agree with leish26 try Hollow Brook Golf Club. It is right down the road from Colonial Terrace. It is extremely affordable for a Fri, Sat, or Sun. We just booked our wedding their and Robbyn, the event coordinator, has been great with us so far. We also went for a food tasting right before Christmas and the food was amazing. We loved it so much that we are looking into there Dinning Membership!

    Congrats on your engagement.Smile

So far I am very happy with Dean and the Dutchess Manor. Gorgeous views of the Hudson at a reasonable price. I have a wedding there this Sept. Good luck with the venue..very important part of the wedding planning!
