Whose been to Paris?

Were going to Paris the last two nights of our HM. So we know we can't see everything. What are the top 5 things to see? Where did you stay ? Any other rec's are welcomed. Thanks.

Ohh  I am jealous!   I went for a couple of days when I studied abroad in Italy and I have always wanted to go back.  It really depends on what you are interested in/want to do.  What are your/FI interests?  You say two nights so are you there three days or only two days?

Oh, I love Paris! Everyone has different styles, but I would suggest climbing to the top of Notre Dame and/or Sacre Couer. Notre Dame is totally worth the wait- the gargoyles are amazing and Sacre Couer is beautiful. And both ways you get a skyline that has the Eiffel Tower in it.

I also highly recommend paying to take a tour of the Opera, if that is your thing. I am not a museum person but you could also see if you will be there when any of the museums are free or have reduced admissions. If you have to do the Louvre I believe there's a lower price for after 5pm admission or something like that.

Paris is amazing. Definitely take the Opera tour. We took a little dinner cruise down the Seine too and it was very nice. You can probably skip the Eiffel Tower honestly. And don't eat at the restaurant there! So not worth the money. I stayed in the Left Bank and it was really fun. FYI 0 al ot of stuff is closed on Mondays in Paris so if you'll be there on a Monday plan ahead and find out what's open. Have a great time!!

When will you be there?  The weather can be kind of fickle, so you'll want to be prepared.  I've been a few times, including our HM.  If you can give me a little more info on things you THINK you'd like to see/do, I can probably give you better recommendations.

Hi there,

I actually just moved back to the US after five years in Paris (and am marrying a Parisian!) so I have a couple of thoughts.

Things/areas to see :

- Number one, first thing to do when you get off the plane is to get on a boat ! Seriously, you should start by taking a Seine River cruise (my favorite is Vedettes des Ponts Neuf but Bateux Mouches are also good). This is  a great way to learn about the history of the city and to orient yourself to the major sites. And they are great during the day or night...Also a good thing to do if you are tired and jet lagged ! Plus it's totally romantic, and only costs about €10
- The Louvre of course (take the overview tour which is a great introduction)
- Also Musée d'Orsay (for impressionist Art)
- Notre Dame and the Crypt Archéologique which is just in front of it (allows you to see the foundations of Notre Dame and the roman ruins of Paris)
- Love the Opera, agree with everyone else here
- Must go to Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur. The views from there are even better than from the Eiffel Tower
- Walk along the Canal St. Martin for a picnic or just a stroll - you'll remember these from the movie "Amélie"
- The sixth arrondissement (St. Germain des Près), with the famous cafés and shops, Luxembourg gardens etc.
- If you are up for it, consider taking a day (or half-day) trip to Versailles, which is about 40 minutes by metro and pretty awesome, all things considered!

OK I could go on and on so here are a few areas to stay : the 6th is great of course, very central and lots of variety. Also the 4th, the Marais, which has a lot of old stone mansions ("hotels particuliers") converted into hotels now. I would avoid the 8th/Champs Elysées, it's a little bit like staying in Times Square.
