Poll: Would You Dye Designer Shoes?!

Ok.. both Cole Haan and Kate Spade sell bridal shoes in dyeable satin... but if I pay $300 for shoes is it CRAZY to dye them?!!?

I really love these http://couture.zappos.com/n/p/dp/51794693/c/933.html

but its a lot of $$ and then dye...

most shoes like that already have a coating on the fabric (i.e. would make dying splotchy) and they don't tell you-- I would bet these do. :(

.. but they are really beautiful...

maybe you could test it (like under the bow part)?

even when they call it dyeable satin??

sad! I don't normally buy designer shoes but so many girls I have talked to have said how much more comfortable they are. I hate heels but my fiance is tall. I tend to get bad aches in most shoes so I want to try really well made ones...

I LOVE these for nondyeables but with the odd heel and the price tag I just dont think I can do it- http://couture.zappos.com/n/p/p/7579295/c/225089.html

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it on $300 shoes (even if they do say they're dyeable...lol)

Have you considered getting ballroom dance shoes?  One of my friends from college does flamenco dancing as a hobby and she said that with the amount of time she's on her feet, they are the best shoes she's ever found. Some of the generic ones aren't the most glamourous looking, but if you want fancy ones, I'd recommend LaDuca (i.e. the Gucci of the dance shoe world).

I love the Kate Spade ones too. :)  If I were you, I'd go to the Kate Spade boutique (there's one on Newbury St).  When I was looking for shoes they were so helpful.  They were able to tell us which shoes came in which colors/fabrics.  Some can even be ordered custom if you want a specific color.  You should totally ask.  They also may be able to answer questions about how well they are able to be dyed or recommend a place to go.  The girl who helped me was awesome.

I ended up getting my shoes someplace else, but I would recommend them to anyone.

Thanks Jke! I will definitely give that a try. I really don't want to spend a lot of money but I also want quality shoes that won't pinch after the first couple hours. I spent nearly 100 on shoes recently for an event and they were great for the first 2 hours.. after that I was dying.

I was in the same exact boat as you! I really wanted the Cole Haan Cecei Rose Slingbacks http://www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/product.jsp?catId=100&productId=239005&productGroup=239005&cp=froogle&CS_003=4386239

They were basically half off at Niemans and was drooling over it. They were way too white for my gown (my gown is ivory), and I considered dying it...however I was told the same thing evs said.

I wouldn't risk it.  I went through the same thought process w/ Stuart Weitzman and Cole Haan, and after talking with the people at Shoes to Dye For, I decided not to risk it.  They warned me that the dye could be splotchy - and seriously, what if it rains on your wedding day?

Have you considered splurging on a a great pair of shoes in a color that you could wear again like gold or blue?

I have! I want blue! My dress has pewter and diamond detailing so gold may be odd altho my girls are wearing gold shoes with their dresses (it works in person all together!)

I am having trouble finding the perfect blue shoes to splurge on!

Nope.  I wouldn't even buy non-designer dyeable shoes - just don't like the look of them.  I would also suggest just buying amazing designer shoes in the color of your choice.
