Recently engaged - looking for venue

Hi All!

We got engaged over Columbus Day weekend :)  I'm originally from Boston and am looking for advice on finding venues (wedding and reception combined) in and around the Boston area.  We are anticipating a small wedding (around 100 guests or fewer) and are on a super-tight budget.  Our target month is October 2011.  If anyone has suggestions on intimate venues, they would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Linda

Check out the Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland.  I only had my reception there, but I believe they do ceremonies as well.  I really enjoyed working with them and have nothing but positive things to say about our experience there.  They work a couple caterers that run the gamut of price range, so you can control a big piece of your expense there.

We got married at The College Club of Boston last October- I think their max limit is 100 people, we had 75. It's less than a block away from the Boston Public Gardens, and definitely inexpensive compared to other venues in the city. Let me know if you want more info, also PIB.

I didn't look at this place because it was too small for me but would fit your needs.  I really wanted to look at it because it looks cool.

Hi! Check out Commander's Mansion in Watertown, MA. I looked into it when I was searching.  If you are expecting 100 guests this place would be perfect.  I had 200 guests and the mansion wasn't able to fit everyone.....well it could but not all in one room.  The mansion has that victorian type of style - great background for your pictures!

Like the above posting, Indian Ridge is really nice too!

I am having my ceremony and reception at a place called The Oceanview in Nahant, MA.  We are having 100 people.  The place includes a lot for the price - tables/linens, centerpieces and other flower decorations, food, cake (you get to pick look/flavor) and a bunch of other stuff, and the people there are incredibly helpful.  The view is incredible.  They also have an agreement with the four points sheraton in Revere.  If you book rooms with them, the hotel will do a free shuttle to and from the Oceanview.  The hotel also has a free shuttle to and from the airport.  If you have any further questions, send me a PM.  Good luck!

Mine & my sister's venues might work for you -  not sure where you are from or how close/far from Boston you want to be. We got married at Roughwood Estate/PMC last October, had 100 guests - did a cocktail reception. My sister got married at Willowdale Estate last year as well - she had under 100 guests and did a Friday wedding and it was really affordable!

    Good luck!

Check out Codman Carriage House in Lincoln MA. It has a beautfiul Italian Garden and beautiful lawns. You would  have to get outside catering and alcohol, but the charge for the venue is only 1600 (1000 for a Friday).

Danversport Yacht Club is also quite affordable and provides an all-inclusive package (taxes, fees, etc) in pricing, especially for under 100 people.

Use Tastings Caterers if you go with with a venue that doesnt do in house catering. They have great reviews on yelp and charge half of what everyone else does.

Indian Ridge in Andover is a waste of your time (went there to scope out reception site and was treated like I was interfering with the woman's day.  While affordable, they will not help you with anything, i.e. set up, etc.)

Recommend Spinnelli's in Lynnfield/Peabody.  I'm having my reception there and you get a ton of stuff for your money including: wedding invites, placecards, thank yous, DJ, limo for 6, $750 towards wedding flowers, and cake.  Beautiful building.  Call them and ask for Anna - she worked with me on my budget and they can be flexible.
