Guest Book Alternative

Here's my idea for a an alternative to the typical guest book:  A large framed cork board with a small bowl of tacks, some small note cards, fine tip sharpies matching our colors and a framed sign that says something like "Please leave your well wishes for the bride & groom."

I guess after the wedding, we would just put the note cards in an album or scrapbook of some kind.

What do you think?

That sounds cute, you'll be able to see how many notes you get as the board fills up.  The only thing that i would b picky about is the tack holes in the notes, but if that won't bother you I think it sounds cute and interactive!

I like it!  I think the holes from the tacks would bother me too, but you could always have them put the wishes in a nice glass bowl or something?  Evs (i think it was her), but together a guest book that had little envelopes on the pages and the guests put there notes right in the envelopes.  I want to say Martha has a version of this as well!

We did something like this as well, and called it "Wedding Wishes." I had a large birdcage for cards, and then a smaller birdcage for the wishes. We also put up a little sign, just to explain we weren't doing a traditional guestbook. Here's how it looked:

I bought the Martha Book.  It's really cute and you can add pages in like a scrapbook.

I don't think the tack holes are a big deal.  Actually, it would be really cool to mix in some photos of the board, people writing messages, etc. in the scrapbook after the fact so that people can see how it was set up and what exactly they are from.  And the tack holes would just authenticate it ;)

    Cute idea!
Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

You could always use the tacked nots in a shadow box with photos from the wedding and hang it in the future.

    :)

I was just about to suggest the shadow box idea!  I love it...  well wishes are good and also "marital advice for the bride and groom."

I *think* we're doing a 2-part guest book: I want to get everyone's signatures on a table runner (I'll embroider over the signatures later), but then for those that want to write a note as well, we'll have some small cards out for that.  I figure whatever we use to put the notes in can double as a card box.  I think.

I did a wishing well with Advice and Wishes for the Newlyweds ... When I made my non-pro scrapbook I mixed the notes in with my pics of the event ... I love looking through it which is something I would never have done with a regular guest book ...

I made a little scrapbook with envelopes and such. Similar to Ev's and Ekobs :) Pictures are in my bio.

If you want to do the board but are worried about the tack holes, they could be covered up with small stickers, like hearts.

I was thinking about doing a decorative plate (with a Sharpie type pen) instead of a guestbook since my wedding is going to be very small and a whole book would be too much.  This idea with notes and a scrapbooking element might work for me too though!  Now I have to think about which I'll like better years down the road :)

I LOVEEEE that idea! Our photog is actually making us a custom guest book for a GREAT price but I sort of want to do something like this too but I am afraid itd be overboard!

my photographer is making a custom guest book with our engagement shots ( once we take them) for 200$. but I did see a cute idea in a wedding mag. You put a big glass jar and guests sign river rocks with a silver marker and place them in the bowl. It doubles as a decoration after the wedding
