Getting Married by a Friend

Do anyone know much about what's involved to have a friend get ordained so we can be married by them?  I'm getting married in NH, but we're both residents of MA and so is our friend who we want to perform the ceremony.

Does anyone know if it's difficult to for someone to get ordained?  How much does it cost?  Any recommendations on websites online to do it thru?  Does state residency matter?  if so are there ways around it?

Any insight would be great!  Thanks!

Looks like it's pretty easy- $25 fee and an application to be mailed in.

    Good luck!

My fiance married his friends in RI, it is pretty basic- they just get ordained for the day.

Yup our friend married us- just pay attention to when all the paper work is due, we almost missed the deadline for application, which I think has to be 6 weeks before your wedding date. It was a close one!

Thanks everyone!  For those who mentioned their friend married them, were you married in the same state that your friend was a resident of?  I'm just nervous because our friend is a MA resident and we're having the ceremony in NH it might be an issue.

My FI and I also live in MA but are getting married in NH by our friend.  All he had to do was sign up to become a JP in Mass.  Once he got his certificate he just had go up to Concord to the State House and get ordained for the day.  The cost was pretty cheap too.  All in all it was just a few hours worth of his time, but now he can JP any Mass wedding! Hope this helps you :)
