Mother of Bride Dress Emergency

So my mom ordered a dress from a well-known designer/dress shop in a solid teal color.  She just got it in yesterday and went right down there because she was convinced she wasn't going to fit into the dress, good thing she fits, bad thing it is this odd leopard print.  It is a total mess up by the dress shop/designer and they are trying to straighten out the mess.  But my mom is starting to panic and so am I that we will be shopping this weekend for a new dress.  We are going to start at the mall and go from there.  But any ideas on places that have dresses on the rack that arenn't your typically mall stores?  I highly doubt we can order a dress at this point since my wedding is in a month.  TIA!

  • I would try Macy's. I know it's a typical mall store but they have nice dresses there. Good luck!

  • Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, maybe even Dress Barn but not sure if they have anything formal

    I'd start at Nordstrom
  • Macy's had a huge selection of dresses a few weeks ago, so that's worth a shot. You could also try Burlington Coat Factory--that's where my FMIL found hers.
  • Definitely Nordstrom - they're amazing and do alterations on site. You coud also try Nordstrom Rack or Saks Off Fifth if you'd like something a little lower-priced but still special.
  • Definitely Nordstrom, Macys, Lord and Taylor. I hope the dress shop makes things right. There is really no excuse. If they can't get your mom the right dress in time, they should pay for whatever dress she ends up with.

  • Hi Thanks everyone! We are calling all the dress shops in the area at the moment.  I will definitely be writing them a lengthy complaint letter about this incident and enclosing the receipt of the new dress.

  • We went to Macy's and couldn't find anything that wasn't a print. My mom actually got hers at JCPenney. Maybe David's has some you can buy off the rack if they are on clearance?

  • Lorraine Roy in Danvers has beautiful MOB dresses - take a look.
  • My mom bought and returned 10 dresses.  The best places were Nordstroms and Saks Fifth Avenue.  She ended up with a dress from Saks.
  • Yup, Nordstrom has a great dress selection, and Lord and Taylor. Nieman Marcus might be a good shot, too, as well as Saks. In this case, I personally wouldn't bother with Nordstrom Rack or the like-- seems like you don't have time for picking through to find the gems. Good luck!
  • Both my mom and FMIL got their dresses this weekend at Lord & Taylor in Boston. They have a really big selection. Not many floor-length gowns though, if that is what she is looking for.

Another good option if you are in Boston shopping is Karen Millen.  There is a shop in Copley and one in Natick.  They are high end, so you might be scared off by prices online, but they make really high quality solid color dresses and often have sales.  My mom her dress there and loved it.
  • After shopping for a crapton of dresses for people I can tell you Macys, Nordstroms and Lord N Taylors....also Dress Barn does have some formal dresses.

You could also get something off the rack at David's Bridal (but I would avoid the Dedham store..it is always mobbed..as well as Natick...I would suggest going to the one in Nashua, which is usually pretty calm)...also down the street from the David's in Nashua is Marry N Tux...which has some gowns which could work as MOB dresses.
  • My mom ordered hers online at Nordstrom
  • Giannas in Stoneham MA has dresses you walk out with!! Well its the outlet store but they are better then some you have to order
