Does anyone know if you need to get permission from the photographer if you buy the cd/dvd of all wedding photos($1300.00!!!!), to make your own album online? Using kodak or snapfish or something? If anyone has done this any tips? Thanks

Yes, if it was not included in your contract then you have to buy them from the photographer.

Yes, you do need to pay for the rights, or at least get written permission from the photographer.  Go back and check your contract, there's probably a clause about duplicating images somewhere in there.

Even if there isn't anything in the contract I'm sure they will work with you.  I feel most everyone wants to use images online nowadays.

We get a cd with our package, and in our contract he states that we can use his images.  If you are paying that much I hope it is high resolution images on the cd.  if not the pics will not print as well.

If its not in your contract, Im sure you can work something out with your photographer.

Just a little insight as to why it's so expensive....you're buying not just the photos, but the hours of work that goes into perfecting your photos. A photographer's work is far from over when they get in the car at the end of your wedding day. Many (not all, but many) of your pictures, like your first kiss, bridal portraits, first dance, can take a lot of time in post-processing to perfect. These are likely the images you will want in your album or printed, so more work goes into them. 

Yes, people want to share online, and maybe make the prints or album themselves, but the paper quality will be lacking what professional prints and albums can give you in longevity and archival quality. A photographer makes money off of their finished work through prints that are ordered, as they should, and if you go make 5 copies of your favorite pic for your parents and friends instead of directing them to your gallery to order prints, you're costing your photographer profit. So there's a steep price to pay if you opt to print cheaply on work that has taken hours to polish for you. 

People talk a lot about allocating budget funds towards wedding photography, because the pictures are "all you have" after the day is done. Then why would you print these pictures you've "invested in" at Walgreens?

I would also say that $1300 sounds awfully high for a CD, I believe ours would have been $500 if it wasn't included in the contract. Maybe if you can find out what is the norm, then you could negotiate with them.

My first impression was that the $1300 was the quote for photography. blanid, if that's the cost of the disc, I would consult with your photographer about putting that money towards prints and an album.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have already paid $2000.00 just for her to take the pictures, That does not include anything....Thanks for the advice everyone!

I would suggest if the contract allows you to, to have a professional album maker create an archival quality album for you.  The ones from snapfish and kodak are not a substitute for a nice album.  If you can't afford it now, give it to yourself as a 1 year anniversary gift.
