place cards/escort cards

Ladies,

I was originally going to have a place card for each guest because I have multiple couples with different last names but my calligrapher said that regardless of marital status, couples usually have one place card because they are at the same table. With that said....I have two questions regarding place cards:

-How did you/will you handle your place cards?

-I'm planning on using differnt colored rhinestones on the place cards to let the servers know what entree each guest chose. Won't this be confusing if a couple shares a place card?

would love to get your thoughts

We did 1 per couple (obviously, singles got their own), but we also didn't have to designate meal choices on the escort cards.

If you have to designate meal choices, each person should get their own.

We're doing one person couple or one per family (we have a few families). We're using 3 different colored pens to designate the meal choice and will just mark accordingly on the back of the card.

Our coordinator told us that the servers will check the back of the escort card AND ask each guest their meal choice, just to confirm. Hopefully that will fix any possible confusion.

We're doing one per person for a few reasons - couples with different last names, for one, and we also have a few non-couple pairs (for example, a friend traveling from very far away is bringing her mom as her guest, another person traveling from far away is bringing his roommate and we're not entirely sure whether they're really a couple or not) and it just seemed awkward to have people on the same card if they're not a couple, but also awkward to have to decide who was a couple and who wasn't.  Plus, I wanted my flower girls to have their own because they're at the stage where they just really like seeing their names on things, but it would have felt weird to give the little kids their own cards if the adults didn't have them.

We're doing buffet so didn't have to worry about meal choices.  If you do go with one card per couple, though, I'd just put two rhinestones on it -- since they'll be sitting next to each other, presumably, it shouldn't really be a problem for the server.

We did not do place cards (seat assignments), just escort cards (table assignments). We did one per couple, or individual if they were not a couple. However, we did not have to include meal choices on the cards.

I am doing escort cards and we have to distinguish what people are having for meals. Originally, I wanted to have 1 escort card for each individual, but our response cards did not distinguish who was getting what (i.e. they checked off 1 fish and 1 beef). So we are just going to have 1 escort card per couple and putting stickers 2 colored stickers in the back of the escort card. The waiters will have to ask the couple who ordered which when the meals come out. Not ideal but it was better than calling all the guests I thought.
