Marriage License?

I've heard different things from different people.  Can you ladies just tell me what's the deal with getting a marriage license?  I know FI and I have to be there together.  Do we need to go and then return 7 days later?  I'm trying to schedule this around our schedules which is proving to be a bit difficult.  And they're good for 60 days right?

They are good for 60 days, yes. I believe you have to go together to apply for it or whatever it is you do the first time. Then anyone can go and pick it up, you don't have to go together.

Karen's MOH is right. We got ours this morning! We didn't even need any form of ID. Just to fill out some paperwork and swear that it was all true and that we weren't brother and sister. Took about 10 minutes and anyone can go after 3 days to pick it up.

I asked about this.  Basically you have to both go together, fill out the form, and then go back 3 (or more) days later to pick it up (but you don't both have to be there for that part).  Each city/town can set their own fees, and you can apply in any city/town and use it anywhere in MA (ie you can apply in Newton and get married in Boston, or where ever).  If you search you can find out what the different fees are.  I feel like Boston is like $50 or $75 or something like that...I feel like Lawrence or Lowell is only $5 or $10.  I am sure the girls on here know some of the different ones.  You can find out by calling or checking online ahead of time.  Once you get it, it is valid for 60 days.  Oh, and after you get married the JP or whoever I think has to sign it and send it in for you & then you get it in the mail...?  Married ladies can correct me on this if I am wrong.
Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

Like jkepros said, make sure you check out the fees - Boston is the most expensive for some reason. Average price is $25 but I think there is somewhere on the North Shore that is only $10.

But remember that you actually have to go pick up the license in person after your wedding (10 days after I think) to get an original - you'll need it to change your name, which BTW has been a total PIA for me :) I'm still pissed at BOA...got my second "new" ATM card from them and it STILL has my maiden name on it :)

Wait so is everyone sure that anyone can pick it up after 3 days and not just myself or my fiance?  We have to fly to Boston on Friday, May 14 (we live in DC) in order to fill it out, but we won't be staying until Monday.
